Hello everyone. My name is Joe, Im a SSgt. in the Marine Corps and I bought a 05 ST XLT 4/2 this weekend. The stealership I went to was not very knowledgeable and myself coming over from the Jeep Wrangler side of the house, Ive got a couple of questions. Thanks for the help and sorry if some of them are simple.

1-E85-Any draw backs or negative feed back?

2-Oil- Manual calls for 5w30-anyone know why? Does the Flex Fuel Engine require Synthetic?

3-Dist. Cap-Have never seen one that looks like this. Seems to be a clear resin block. Is it changed in the same fashion and intervals?

4-Axle-Does the ST have the Ford 8.8 axle? Anyone doing gear changes to get a better top end?

5-Stereo-Has the 6disk in dash and the Sat button. Is this ready for XM or do I need more equipment.

And finally.....Wheres the dang ashtray?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help.

1. Gas mileage not as great, and stations are not easily found in many areas.

2. I use 5-30 Mobil 1 Synthetic changing every 4000 miles, and I don't have a FF vehicle.

3. ???

4. 8.8, just like the Mustang. What gears do you have now, if 4.10, then you could get 3.73, but those are the only options that I know of.

5. Supposedly, but I don't know anyone (especially The Ape) who has gotten Sirius to work with their stock unit.

Finally, ashtray is that black thing with a lid in between the cup holder and the rubber mat on the center console between the front seats.

Joey, welcome. The others here have taught me what I know and will be a great help. Just wanted to tell you I got a kick out of the ashtray question. Took me about a week to figure out I had to buy one! Take care and again, welcome, some of the kindest, most helpful people are on this site and you will make a few good friends as well.

If you do satelite, you should forsake the Ford option and just get a tuner installed (libray pics) you can go XM or Siruis that way and save 3-4 hundred bucks.

Welcome to a great site Joey...

#3. It is DIS, all that is is a coil pack controled by the ECU, no mechanical distributor.

#5 Purchase Ford satellite receiver off Ebay for $250.00, easy install. You will have factory satellite (Sirius) radio from your Sport Trac stereo.

Me, have you done this? A member here tried for several months and several trips to Ford, and they had no idea what he was talking about, last I heard he never got it working.

I have not but I am still price shopping for a better deal. Here is the link for what you need off Ebay with a lot of information.

I also emailed the guy for installation instructions and they are very simple as your Sport Trac is made for this kit. I will attempt to post the instructions in my library but they were sent to me in a weird format and I may have problems.

Instructions for the Sport Trac are now in my library. I had to convert them to .pdf from .jpeg. They are very difficult to make out but you can do it if you follow the pictures.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Joey. One thing that was not mentioned above is the XCalibrator2 which flashes the OEM computer chip (PCM) with a new program that is more efficient & will get you better gas milage. Just drop Wayne Foy an email @ Hypnotic Illusions, a site sponsor, and he'll set you up - also set you back $360. Take a look in my profile for other mods. Oh, join us in Dallas, TX at the end of Sept.

Thanks for all the good info and the Hello's.

Fast Eddie: So when I change the plugs...do I change the coil pack too?

Roger: Thanks for the info on the Xcal. Wish I could meet you in TX but Ill be in Indiana getting married.

Thanks again

Joey, no need to replace the coil paks. In most cases they will go the life of the vehicle. Every now and then one will fail but it is a rare event. I do not know of anyone at the site that has lost a Coil Pak yet and I have been here near 4 years.

Oh,,, and welcome aboard!!!
