Issues with locking latches

Recently when I close the rear section of my OEM cover one side occasionally refuses to catch causing only one side to lock. This leaves one side raised slightly and I can't unlock or open it. I tried the WD-40 recommendation but that didn't solve the solve the problem. Upon closer inspection I have found that the side causing the problem doesn't seem to have as much spring tension as the opposite side. Can the spring come undone from the latching mechanism and if so how do I repair it. I should mention that when the cover is properly closed it WILL unlock with the key or the quick releases. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I found mine had a plastic piece frayed off causing the jam..... Lubricate and re inspect.... If its the spring, you may have to match one up some where..
