should be a very interesting show tonight. i have alway's liked jay and think he did a great job with the tonight show, he had some big shoe's to fill when he took over.

imo, well done.

good luck jay with your new show and good luck conan o'brien.

Leno had to replace the greatest late night show "icon" ever IMO. What made Johnny special was his spontaneity and "off the cuff" speed and timing. The only "other" that comes to mind is Robin Williams.

Jay proved to be one of the most charismatic, likable, talk show hosts ever, while keeping his dialogue "reasonably" clean.

All the best Jay. Don't change a thing. (Including your car collection) Must be nice, huh?

I know I enjoyed Jay's 17 year run. Dunno about Conan, I haven't ever been a huge aficionado of him; he's reminiscent of steven colbert in a way.

The only "other" that comes to mind in recent memory is Robin Williams.

Didn't see any of that, but in the past 12 years (since flubber), I don't recall him doing anything worthwhile except playing TR in Night at the Museum & its sequel.

KL, have you seen RV? Williams was very good in that one. His problem was that he tried to get away from comedy roles. He has had his moments with some serious roles (Awakening, Patch Adams) but his best are when he sticks to comedy.;)

I didn't care much for Leno when he first took over for Carson, was always a Letterman fan but in recent years he became way too political and 'left' for my tastes, so I switched back to Leno and have really enjoyed the monologues.

That was a great way to end Jay's run, showing all the kids born during his tenure and including them on the show. Classy. I wish him great success at 10:00, and now I'll be able to go to bed earlier;-)

Jay was no Johnny but was pretty good....Conan is no Jay IMO. Won't be watching Conan!

'07 ST:)

Carson, Leno, Letterman, Conan, all different, all funny, each with their own spin on humor. I liked them all, and I think Letterman in his day was the funniest, but at the same time, lately, it has been Conan that has really made me laugh.

Conan's humor is not for everyone. Sometimes it is in your face, sometimes very dry.

All of them are better than Fallon. That guy better hit is stride soon.

TJR

Andy Richter will be the announcer of Conan's new show. I've never been a big fan of Leno so I welcome the change. Conan takes a little getting used to but I like his type of humor. Leno was just trying to be another Carson, Conan is bringing something different to the table.

I agree with you TJR about Fallon. He's never been funny and never will be.

i was disappointed with the show last night. imo, it really didn't live up to the hype.

oh well, can't wait for his 10pm show this fall.

One guy who has to be loving Fallon right now is Ferguson. Man, the easiest way for Craig to increase audience share has to be going up against Fallon.

Then again, maybe it's not that Fallon is that bad, and is instead that Ferguson is that good. Even when he was up against Conan (who I like fairly well), Ferguson was proving himself to be funnier and plain better. I definitely get the feeling that Ferguson is good enough that he won't be at 11:30 for long--some network is going to find a way to get him a show at 10:30...

I was never a huge fan of Leno, always preferred Letterman. But I did watch Leno's show last night, and I gotta say--the way he ended the show, with all the kids on stage, was pure class. Well done!

I have to agree with TJR about Ferguson, although I can see that he wouldn't appeal to everybody.

Conan just doesn't do anything for me.

I was a big fan of Carson and couldn't adjust to the change in the Tonight Show when Leno took over, even though I liked him (and still do). I came to appreciate it more in recent years, but still didn't watch very often.

I bought my first VCR way back when specifically to record Letterman when he was on NBC (at the time, he was on from 11:30 PM to 1:00 AM). Sadly, he has become a bitter old liberal partisan and I can't stand to watch him anymore.
