JVC or BOSS

What type of head unit are you referring to? A single CD unit? a touchscreen monitor? or a DVD/Nav unit?

IME as an audiophile, JVC has a solid reputation for making stuff that sounds good. They might not be the best "bells and whistles" maker, but JVC is a good budget Hi-Fi brand. Pioneer doesn't enjoy the same respect from the High End folks that JVC does. Pioneer spends their money on advertising, JVC spends theirs on parts.

Boss Audio Systems has no reputation, is a relative newcomer, and might be gone tomorrow. That doesn't mean they make crap, but it does mean it's a risk.

Alpine was the brand back when I made beer money by installing car stereos, but that was a long time ago...

I have personally owned one or two JVC units. They have been very high quality and sounded great. I have never owned Boss, but I think they follow the footsteps a Pyramid.

I have also had Panasonic, Emerson, and JBL.

Panasonic is just junk. Every Panasonic I have had I hated. The Emerson was an in-dash TV that got stolen. The JBL was a hell of a deal, that is why I got it. It had a 10 disk changer AND in-dash cassette for like $125.00. Sounded awesome and was very reliable.

Always wanted Alpine, but never wanted to spend the cash. I like the Pioneer, but could never find the deal or unit I really liked.

By far, the best I have ever heard was an ugly McIntosh unit. That thing was hideous, but it sure sounded like the angles were singing.

Man...that brings me back. I remember the old Pyramid car stereo crap: cheap in every way, utter trash.

I also remember their way over-optimistic specs. "100W peak power" meant that both channels combined might produce 100W for an instant before it melted.
