Went to a Truck outfit today to get some prices. they told me the k/n setup on my ST would cost $350, but i could just get a filter for $50 and see a performance boost over stock? does anyone have an opinion or have this setup of just the k/n filter?

thanks,

Dan

Too expensive. You will see an improvement, but the price is high. Check Summit Racing for their prices.

Whatever brand you get make sure it is a cold air typ. Also you dont want a alum. or chrome tub they only look cool. I suggest you take the air box out cut a 3.5" hole on the intake. And get a pc. of 3.5 PVC tubing go into the header and use a K&N drop in will work better than a 300.00 unit and cost about 50.00 good luck with your choice. Bill

This is what i got off Summit Racing. the $350 included installation. I was kinda nervous when they told me that they never did it before and would charge me 90 bucks for the install when it normally takes 30 bucks. i would have thought they would go the other way since I would probably pay in the end for their lack of experience in some way.

I think i will go with the removal of the box and drop in filter.

thanks

I paid $228. I checked a couple of sites and that seems to be the going rate. The

part number is 57-2529. It takes about 30mins to install.

Various intakes for alot less and same peformance results:

I bought an A.E.M. dry filter,so you don't have to oil it,just clean it and a 90 degree flanged elbow from an rv store. Total cost of 60.00. Then bought some vinyl from the store and made my own outside air intake. pics in library._ Ron

I don't think any of them are worth the money. The engine doesn't flow enough air to matter. I put a K&N replacement in my old Ranger and it didn't make any difference.

Lots of info and opinions in the link.

Get a MAC. K&N are over-rated and over-priced. No it doesn't make a big improvement in performance but it does make a cool "whoosh" sound when you step on the gas! And the filter lasts a lifetime.
