My first car in 1976 was a 1971 Chevy Impala 4-door. What a piece of **** car. With 59,000 miles on the 350 engine, it already used oil and the fenders were rusting out. I traded it three months later for a no-options 1974 Pinto hatchback, which I traded six months later for a loaded 1977 Pinto wagon. I had the Pinto wagon until 1984, when I bought a 1981 Ford Granada 4-door with 123,000 miles on it. Drove that thing until it had 198,000 miles on it in 1988. Bought a brand new Tempo 4-door and drove that car to 146,000 miles in 1995. Bought a new 1995 Contour SE with every option, and traded it for a loaded 1998 Contour SE. Finally bought the Sport Trac in 2001.

My first Car was an 88 1/2 Ford Escort Hatchback. I loved that little car, Dad bought it for $800, someone backed into my drivers side door with me in it (Accelerated from a dead stop into my door, a little scary) and we got $785 from them. Best $15 car ever!



My first car that I bought with my own money was my dads 93 F-150. Bought with 140K on it, its parked currently with 260K if I remember correctly..(I haven't driven it in a year - powere steering out and I can't afford the insurance on 3 cars right now) 302 5.0 engine. Engine and Tranny still original, no rebuilds.

My first car was a 1939 Ford 2dr sedan. Like the attached pic but grey.

Bought it in 1951 for $250....Flat head V8...Floor shifter. I was 16....sold it

in '52, quit school and joined the Navy........

I had a Pinto once... 1976 wagon, with the port hole windows in it.

Owned it for 6 days, it ony ran/started 2 out of the 6 days.

Sold it back to the guy I got it from at a $50 loss just to get rid of it.



On the other hand, I had a 74 Maverick that started life with a 250 straight 6, and I put a built 302 in it, with a built C4. 11.5 to 1 Pistons, ported and polished heads.. etc... Would pull 60 MPH in 1st gear at the redline, catch a heckuva scratch hitting 2nd, and pull over 100 in 2nd at redline.. Had it over 140 MPH on a long stretch of interstate.. A Maverick is SCARY at 140 MPH...

My first car was a 1966 Chevy Impala with a 283 back in 1969 when I went to college. Paid about $1,400. A little over a year later I traded it in for a new 1969 GTO Judge. Wish I still had that.



My son's first car was a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am in 2006 before his senior year in high school. It was a solid car and since we didn't pay much for it I didn't care if he damaged it (he didn't). He didn't care what type of car he got as long as he got someting. He drove it for a couple of years before getting a new 2-door Colbalt (his choice) as he needed something more reliable for commuting to college.

1967 Chevrolet Impala 4-door; 283 V8; 2-speed PowerGlide auto transmission; former owner "Yellow Cab Company"; 99,000 miles; very cold A/C; interior like new; gobs of bondo, some rust, and yellow cab paint on exterior; included lettered sign on rear quarter panel; holes in roof; holes in dash and floorboard for taxi meter; burned more oil than gas. Paid $125 for it; drove it for a year and traded for a '70 VW Beetle that also used more oil than gas.

My first car was a 1969 Buick Riviera that I bought off of my brother when he bought his new '79 Mustang V8.



When my son turned 16 a couple of years ago, he bought himself of 1997 Toyota Celica.

Hey Gary, you may want to remove those aftermarket mats or at least check to make sure the peddle has no chance of catching. It would be very hard to defend Toys the way you do if it kills your son!

More fun and danger than any 16 year old should have. My parents argued but finally agreed I was responsible enough (little did they know) but it would be parked if I got 1 ticket. Never got caught.:grin: Everyone in high school was driving lifted trucks or 140hp rice burners. I wanted different. Girls especially loved it. Only lost 2 stoplight drags. Both to Corvettes: a Stingray and a C6. Drove it until it was killing me during the $5/gal days and I was already a poor college student.



My first senior year of college I got a 1998 Accord EX V6 as a more economical/practical 4 door replacement. I gave it to my sister after I bought the Sport Trac and she totaled it a couple months later, with 230k miles on it and no problems.

A great reason to learn on a high powered/low traction, slow stopping, wide turning muscle car: I have experience in regaining control of an out of control vehicle.:driving:

no need to worry. the mat is only there until i get my weathertech floor liners.

My first car - 1964 Volvo P1800 - 160,000 miles, bought it for 300 - ran it for years then sold it to my uncle. I believe he ran it till well into the 300,000 miles

I have always thought that a 16 year olds first car should be as old as they are. That way if they get in a wreck, the replacement value would be low and insurance premiums might be lower.



The first car I bought on my own was a '77 Malibu Classic. It was a huge 4 door. Brown. I called it "the brown turd." I think the tranny went on it. Replaced with a '79 Firebird. It only had the 231 V6. It was a 3 speed manual though. All of my pics are still in physical form...

Yea, you are right. I have over 5/8 million miles in my driveway. (667,000 miles) Not too worried about "residule". More of a fan of getting my money out of my vehicles and driving reliable vehicles.



Oh yea, just put some new tires on the Explorer. Had to give her a new set of shoes at 201,000 miles. The old tires lasted 66,000 miles, but still had a fair ammount of tread left on it, but the tires were a little slippery and with winter coming, figured what the heck!. Plus, if the Ohio salt roads are kind this year, we should be pushing 220,000 miles by this time next year.
