I am installing Laminate Flooring in my house and I was wondering has anyone here ever attemped it. How do you cut around the door frames to carry it over into another room?? Thanks

believe you need to raise the bottom of the door frame by cutting if off enough to allow the flooring to slide under the trim molding , check with home depot or lowes, they should be able to offer advice etc.

I have installed this in My Attic room and in a few bedrooms.

a few Key things. Get the install kit with the wedges, taping block and pull bar. Makes things a lot easier.

they make Transitions for flooring to carpet or other floors. they should have that at Homedepot or lowes. the store you get the flooring should also have it.

make sure you leave the gap around the edges as stated in the directions for the flooring.

start on the longest straight wall. and use 1/4 round or edge molding to cover the gap.

I used a cordless Chop saw to cut the straight cuts. (royobi) and a couping saw for the smaller curved cuts.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

Are you talking about the casing of the door frame or a threshold?

if you clarify i may be able to help you.

There is a special saw to cut the bottom of the door jams. Cost about $10.00.

Use a piece of the flooring to be installed to set the height of the cut off the base flooring.

Just rest the saw on the scrap piece and you will have a perfect height cut. Cuss if the finished carpenter put a nail to low in the frame. Drink a beer and go get a new blade of the saw.

can't help you with the install as i am "challenged" in any home improvements. the best i can do is change a light bulb

but i did have it installed in my house and it is great and wears well. pretty much maintanence free. the only downside is that it feels like plastic when you walk on it with bare feet

has anyone looked at putting cork down under the floor? I hear it's much better. Getting ready to put laminate in myself. When did everyone buy theres from? Best place I've found so far is http://www.ifloor.com

I have a table saw and a chop saw. Will I need anything else?

My wife wants to rip out the carpet and install laminate flooring. Just have to decide which brand/style.

Cork is not a good idea becasue it wears differently. Plus it will void any warranty you have on the floors. Cork will initially reduce sound and be good underlayment but it wears unevenly and if it wears too much in any given spot too much you may damage the laminate floor.

for the money you are puttin into your floor just go with the manufacturer recommends.

Use the highest quality underlayment you can find! It will make a big difference in the feel and sound of the floor. Most of the higher quality ones also have the moisture barrier built in.

This saw lets you cut the door trim without removing it from the wall.

Called a Japanese Saw or a Veneerer Saw.
