It looks to have everything you need or want for the average user.

Based on the stats I think the pricee is right. I would not pay more as the big name competitors will be this price or just slightly higher.

Looks like a good price. The limited 24 month warrantly also helps.

I would upgrade the memory to atleast 1gb.

Medion is a big name in Europe. I own a Medion MD2900 Titanium Laptop. I also own a Medion 180 GB External HDD, and I lso own a Medion 5.1 MP Digital Camera. I would buy Medion over any name brand PC out there. Bang for the buck is simply awesome. Tech support is fantastic. I recomend 100%.

Yes and no on the quality. I have had a Medion laptop for 3 years that has been fantastic in every way. My only problem with it is that its battery lost its life sooner than most laptops I have used. Other than that, they work great!!!

I have a Medion laptop in my work van. Need a new one for the office. Just like yours Matt,,, my battery lasts about 1 hr, but I keep it plugged into an adapter running 12v

I agree with bumping up to a gig of ram. But don't buy it from them, get it from Circuit City or Best Buy. It will be MUCH cheaper.

The only hangup I would have is the video card using shared memory instead of dedicated memory (it will use system memory, so if you have 512mb of memory, it will use up to 128mb of it for video, thus slowing things WAY down). If you don't use a lot of graphic intensive stuff, it shouldn't be a problem for ya.

Aldi's sells medion products. They usually have better prices and the best warranty in the business. My neighbor bought a Medion GPS and used it for a year, it blew a fuse and he took it back expecting to have to send it off and they had a new one and gave it to him.

Wonder what they do with the returned ones?

I have a Medion that I bought at Aldi a couple of years ago. While it's a good computer for the price (mine was $799), with a 1.35MHz (I think) Centrino processor, it's not a desktop replacement. I use mine primarily for e-mail access and light computing while traveling. I added 256MB of memory to bring it up to 512, which helped. Overall, it's been a reliable computer and I'm happy with the purchase.

It sounds like the people who have tried this brand thinks it a good laptop for the price.

As Simon says, the battery life depends on how you use it. You have to drain it and recharge it periodicaly or a fully charged battery will not provide the full usable time.

Ironically, the more you charge the battery the less use time you will get, but this is very gradual.

My laptop has a new Lithium/Ion battery that I bought about 8 months ago. It started out with a full 2 hours and 45 minutes on a full charge, and now is already down to 2 hours and about 33 minutes. It's been drained and recharged about 50 times since it was new.

...Rich

LaRue,

You ever buy this? I was thinking about driving up (in my Trac, of course) to Sumter from Charleston to get one this weekend (Sumter's got the closest Aldi to here).

It is unlikely that the Aldi stores still have the laptops in stock. The last time they were sold, which was about 2 years ago, the stores in the Buffalo area got 2 computers each.

If seriously interested in a Laptop, stop by the closest store and ask them to locate one at a store in a lower income neighborhood.

They will do that.
