Leever lift.

I purchased a tonneau cover from a member a couple of years ago with the lever lift items.

I never installed it till today, now i'm having problems with the tonneau latching and closing.

I take the gas springs off and the tonneau latches and closes just fine. I really want to use the lever lift but I can't get it to work. Any suggestions? I'm really frustrated. Thanks in advance.

chuck,

I invented, manufactured and sold the LeverLift kits for about 5 years, and closed the business about 5 years ago..

The gas springs tend to shift the cover forward or backwards slightly when one o the covers is opened. This is caused by the center hinge moving forwards or backwards on the mounting pins and causing a misalignment of the latch mechanism on the cover with the latch striker bars mounted to the sides of the bed.

To avoid this shifting, you need to remove all the slack and movement from the center mounting pins. To do this, you must first remove all the gas springs, then loosen the bolts that connect the center hinge to the mounting pin brackets. Then push the mounting pin brackets upward while pulling the cover hinge down and tighten the bolts. To prevent the mounting pin bracket bolts from loosening, you need to pin them in place. This can be done by drilling 2 small holes through both the mounting pin bracket and the center hinge leaf and insert 2 short self tapping sheet metal screws.

When correctly done, you should not be able to lift the cover at the center hinge when the cover is closed. Any up or down movement at the center hinge will translate to forward and backward shifting of the cover when the cover is lifted by the gas springs.

Look in my library for the Tonneau Cover Adjustment file that explains this in more detail.
