Well, I have near 400,000 points saved up. I would like to take the family somewhere we would normally go. For example, Hawaii, another country, Cruise, something like that.

In no rush at all, just starting to get into the thinking process of it all. This far out I hope to be able to use my miles/point with no issues. This is why we are planning so far in advance.

I have been all over the world and still get out of the country about 15 times a year. But, have never done so with my family (wife and 2 girls, 13 and 9 years old).

So, looking for your input.

Poland is nice in the Summer. It is also close to Germany, Czech Republic, Estonia, Russia, etc.

You should begin the process to get Passports for your family if they don't already have them.

Good point on the passports. I have three different types, I suppose I'm covered.. LOL

Well, as we get closer to a decision I'll start the process if we do go to another country.

You could Visit the Napa Valley..... March is the time of the Mustard Festival The Mustard in in blom in the vinyards...

Where every you decide to go, plan your flight and itinerary as early as you can. I had a hell of a time trying to cash-in my American Airline Frequent Flyer miles for round-trip tickets to Las Vegas and that was over 2 months in advance of the trip.

Since the Dallas to Las Vegas flights are always booked, they have no incentive to add may Frequent Flyer seats. I eventually had to fly to Los Angeles then back to Las Vegas. It seems that since LA is so close to Las Vegas, most people drive and so there are more seats available.

It's very hard to use your Frequent Flyer miles/points to fly to the most popular vacation spots like Las Vegas, Orlando, and Hawaii, etc.

I was in Alaska during the summer of 2003. We flew into Anchorage and rented a car. Drove as far north as Fairbanks and south to Homer. Also visited Denali National Park (Mt McKinley) and took the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward. At Seward we hoped on a charter boat and toured Resurrection Bay. Even tried our hand at salmon fishing along the Kenai River in Soldotna. Stayed in everything from log cabins at Denali and Homer to a bed and breakfast in Fairbanks. Unbelievable scenery and wildlife. We were there during the first half of July and it never really got dark. Weather was awesome with clear blue skies and temps in the 70s most days. Great family vacation.

As RichardL says plan way ahead as a lot of flights have restrictions on how many seats are available for frequent fliers especially places like Hawaii. I've had luck going to Mexico using miles though. For me and my wife it's any place that is warm, 90 degrees +.
