Hey Guys and Gals,

I know this is my first post but who to ask questions to but the guys and gals that work and deal with the truck/suv day in and day out. Thank you ahead of time for all your time and help.

I am looking to purchase a 2008 Sport Trac 4x4, it has 110,xxx miles on it, a one owner vehicle. Im headed to the dealership this weekend to check it out the carfax report came back clean. With you guys being veterans of the truck what should I look for or check while im there other than the usual normal stuff... suspension play, window mechanics, ac, tires, leaks, fabric rips, ect...

I have owned a Camaro for the past 15 yrs and have stripped it down to nothing and built it back up so i could tell you everything down to the wire or bolt that could go wrong with it. :)

So any insite to the truck would be extremely helpful

Thank you,

Chris

I have a 2008 that I got new. Just turned 90k. The only issues common to this model are front wheel bearings and cracked radiators. I've had several wheel bearings and the radiator replaced on extended warranty. With the second radiator I switched to 16 lb cap to lessen the likelyhood of it happening again. Be advised that the hub and bearing assemblies cost about $300. Some have complained about water leaking through the 3rd brake light but I have not had that problem. I did have the alternator crap out but with 110k yours may have already been replaced.

With 110k I would get the lube changed in both axles, the transfer case, and flush the tranny. The rear axle and transfer case have drain plugs and are easy enough to do yourself. The ONLY way to do the front axle is to go to the qwicky-lube and have them do it with their suction machine.

What's asking price for this high mileage Trac? 22K a year is a lot in my book. Anything on CarFax report about repair history? If a Ford dealership has this car, ask them for whatever service history they can pull from Ford system; they should be able to provide that. I agree with Johnny's advice on drivetrain fluids, but would also do a pan drop on the transmission.

They are wanting 18k for it, has all the bells and whistles black on black leather heated seats dvd screen in the back 4x4. The Carfax report comes out clean nothing on it at all but documented oil changes every now and then. They said it was a trade in from an older lady that wanted a newer truck with less miles, its not a ford dealership but its not a stealership either, they have a really good rep with the surrounding area.

I will definitely ask if they will change all the fluids in it and look real good at the ball joints and radiator.

Great advice guys this is exactly what im looking for.

thank you again

Good luck. Let us know what you decide. These cars are versatile. I've had three - a Gen1, Gen2 V6 and my present 08 STA which is my fave!
