I've been looking for Mercon V fluid and all I find is just Mercon/DexronIII. Mobil and Royal Purple are the two brands I'm interested in, but their sites list ATF for Mercon/DexronIII only. Is Mercon/DexronIII compatible with Mercon V?

I don't think so. When I was looking I found Valvaline Mercron V at Advanced Auto. I also saw some at walmart that was ATF fluid and it said on the back that it was compatable with Mercron V and Dextron and could be used in Ford vehicles '96 and up but I still couldn't get myself to try it.(it was thier "off" name brand) Keep looking and it is out there. Not too many places had it is what I found.;)

No, they are not compatible. The only Mercon V I've seen was Castrol, Valvoline Durablend, and Motorcraft. All three of those are synthetic blends. Mobil 1 ATF is only Mercon-rated. I did put the Mobil 1 ATF in my transfer case though.

Just not that common yet. Only a handful of vehicles in the grand scheme of things need it so far. Haven't tried the Valvoline. My .02, just go to the dealer (if you have a good one), and have them flush the tranny.

Valvoline seems great. I've always trusted Valvoline, but did want to try Mobile but it was hard to find, and Royal Purple is way out of my price range. Just have to keep up with it, and now that I put a drain valve in, it'll be alot easier to do now. No problems with slipping. of course my tranny needed the fresh oil bad. If you're doing it yourself, also adjust the EPC pressure valve. Made a real difference in mine. The shifts seem also sharper and quicker. Big difference!! I submitted my projects on all this and Rich said he'd try to get them on tomorrow.(post right before this one) I submitted the EPC adjustment in there also. Easy to do and since you're in there anyway.;)

If it's Mercon-V compatible, it should say so on the lable. It may be in the small print.

The dealer sells it... Expensive, but worth it...

I can check my place to see if they are cheaper. They sell it by the case... 1 case will do 1 flush, or two pan services..

Mercon V should be widely available.... heck even my daughter's '97 Explorer calls for Mercon V in the tranny.
