Tethering is using your phones data plan/capability while connected to your laptop to provide internet access when wifi is not available.

Or I'm talking to my mom about doing the same thing with a desktop setup because high speed internet is not available at her house, but there is good cell coverage so she could tether to get better than dial up speeds.

The droid is tetherable I was talking to a guy the other day about it. He said he had to pay $29 extra when he got the phone but that allowed him to tether so he has cancelled his home internet and he does every bit of his internet through his droid and laptop

...Droid has military level security built in...
I don't know what he is referring to, sounds like salesman speak, but it is not GPS. The only thing military encryption of GPS would help you with is GPS signal jamming. Not much of a problem for the average cell phone user :)

JD, Thank You.

PRM,

FYI, I am retired from the Army Corps of Engineers, and I am very aware of the difference between military GPS & civilian GPS encription. Military encription is where you get pin point (nats butt) accuracey, and civilivian GPS will only give you accurace to with in 3 ft. I did mention that to the Verizon rep. What he was referring to is data encription.
