Hey Guys, I haven't been too active on here in a while because I have been in engineering school and haven't really been doing anything but driving the ST. But anyway, I thought some of you guys might be interested in seeing my new ford project. Its not very far along so basically all your gonna see right now is the before pictures. I will try and update this as progress is made.
But here it is. It's a 1961 F100. Bought it for $900 and drove it on the trailer. Hauled it 4 hours home and tore it down completely. You will see what I mean by completely in a minute. When we got it, it had a 1978 302 under the hood. Which was cool cause it's a 302 but '78 was the lowest horse power 302 ever at only 150 hp. So we pulled that and got an '85 302 from my uncle, we tore it down and took the block to the machine shop.
For the motor, right now its a bare block but I got a fully balanced eagle 331 stroker rotating assembly, 650cfm edelbrock carb with endurashine. Edelbrock dual plane intake. Patriot performance heads. and a comp cams roller cam set up, I can't remember the cam specs right now. I am planning on building the short block the 2nd week of march.
As far as the truck goes, it is down to bare frame. I got the front suspension out of an 03 crown vic cop car along with its rear axle and some brake bits. So the truck will soon have an 8.8 3.73 lsd in the back with IFS up front and big disc brakes all the way around. Add the benefits of power rack and pinion steering to that and I think its gonna be a major upgrade for the truck.
Plans for the rest of the truck at the current time are to fix all the boo boos on the body and paint it the original color of Corinthian white with "peanut bridle" King ranch leather on the bench seat. Going to try and get some Brazilian hard wood for the wood bed kit and possibly use some of the same wood to build a gauge panel and maybe turn a shift knob for the T5 5spd.
That pretty much outlines the project so here are the pics of what we started with and where we have gotten so far. This is a project my stepfather and I are building together in our spare time. I am a full time student who lives 4 hours from home and he is a doctor who spends 90hrs a week at the hospital. So don't expect updates to come too rapidly.
Took a little break to blow off some steam:fire:
ST=Sport Trac or Sniper Truck
Pulled the old 9inch out. Gonna use it in a pulling tractor we are building at school for the 1/4 scale national tractor competition.
And that brings us to where we sit today. Like I said, we tore the truck completely down.
We got the frame media blasted and primed by a local guy. Only charged $150. We will be taking the body parts to him after the motor and frame are done. I hope to get some updates ready by the 2nd or 3rd week of March when I am home for spring break.
