Sale runs through the end of February. Just turned 50K on my '05 XLS, bought at 46K.

Figured it may be a good time to make the transition from conventional oil.

Many reliable sources on line claim it is manufactured by Ashland (Valvoline)

Would the NAPA Synthetic be the equivalent to the Valvoline "SynPower" line of oil?

As for the NAPA Gold (WIX) oil filter, I'll probably use it as a paperweight, and stick with the Motorcraft FL-820S. ($3.99 @ CSK O'Reilly's everyday price)

Have been using Castrol GTX 10W-30. Should I go with Ford's recommended 5W-30 viscosity upgrading to the synthetic oil in the ST?

Opinions greatly appreciated.

Steve, If you have been using 10-30 this whole time,50k miles. I would stick with it. Especialy since where you live stays warm. The 5-30 is good for climates that get colder, Quiker circulation in cold wheather startups. There will be no mpg difference because the oil will go to 30 viscosity at operating temp anyway.

The napa filter should be of good qality. I wouldnt worry.

I have been told by reputable sources that NAPA oil is Valvoline. I wouldn't worry about the filter. The NAPA Gold is their good filter, as good if not better than a Motorcraft. I often get the Wix equivalent for my Focus because the FL-2005 is not widely available.
