I finally got navigation installed. This is something I wanted to do since I got the touch screen head unit but between military duties, home remodeling, and finances it seemed like it took forever. Kenwood changed from a DVD reader for nav to a Garmin based receiver/computer. You can update the maps and software with a SD card. It is a much more compact design and is easier to hide. Because there is no DVD the load/search speed is quicker without the read time required for a disc.

I'm extremely happy with it and I highly recommend it.

The DDX7015 is the in-dash head unit with the LCD screen. The Nav unit is a Kenwood KNA-G510. Crutchfield sells them for $800.

Sorry for the late reply but I don't seem to get online until after 9 p.m. these days. Late summer nights uno.

I got the Head Unit almost 2 years ago on ebay for $700, the KNA-G510 2 weeks ago for $540.

There are combinations that some are offering in Ebay, I believe a DDX 6019/KNA-G510. I think the replacement for my head unit is the DDX 7017. Anyway the head unit does MP3, WMA, DVD video, Sirrius ready, HD radio ready etc. Additionally the KNA-G510 navigation can add on XM traffic updates to the map/route and includes a XM Radio player. Also a FM traffic reciever can add on Clear Channel traffic updates like the XM. Available in large markets now (both require a subscription).

It is an amazing system and like I mentioned in the original post I highly recommend it. ;)I am also impressed with Pioneer's offerings but at the time they didn't have the in-dash touch screen like they have now.

Check my Library for pic's of the head unit. Thanks for the interest.

Greg,

What type of modification (if any) was involved in getting this 2 din into the ST????

I have seen other projects with 2 din's installed but none of these look as clean as yours. Based on the look of yours I think I am now leaning away from the AVIC (Z1 or D2) and now more toward the Kenwood unit. Do you have an I-Pod adapter being used, and if so, what are your thoughts on it? Everyone with the Pioneer seem to very disatisfied with the I-Pod's performance thru these HU's.

Thanks,

Caleb

The Bezel (from the local car audio shop) was trimmed at the top and bottom.

I'm not sure about the I Pod interface on Kenwoods newer units. I pride myself as gadget freak but I just haven't had the excitement about I Pods. I think because it is Apple propriatary although there is a lot of neat accessories. I rather go with MP3 myself because I can convert any music to that format and even my cell phone plays MP3 with stereo headphones.
