I just received an ad from Ford for the 2011 Ford Map Update for my navigation system priced at "only $199." There must be a more reasonable update available anyone with a link or place to buy something more affordable would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bennt

They're all pricey, really, with the exception of Garmin's nuMaps service (as opposed to Garmin's yearly CityNavigator updates, which range from $60-$100). You still have to pay to play initially, but get unlimited updates for the life of one device.

I would never buy the in-the-dash car mfg. GPS as the manufacturers always make upgrading the maps ridiculously expensive. I enjoy my Garmin because I can use it anywhere I go with rental cars and while walking (used it in Amsterdam and Paris and it was flawless). I purchased the lifetime upgrade option from Garmin. I think the in-dash GPS systems take your eye off the road as well because they are lower in the dash than my Garmin that sits up on the dash right in the center so my eye does not need to wander far.

Hey Benny, yeah, I got the same notice too. I have already bought one update for my unit last year(same price). NAVTEQ is the sole provider for Ford navigation units, others may work, I just don't know. I am planning on getting the new disc shortly, only because I'm on the road a bit. The updates fill in some of the "holes" in the navigation map(ya know, driving on a road and its blank on the screen). I just think of it as a necessary expense. JMHO, BC

benny,

i had the oem nav in my 07.

i wouldn't update unless you use it alot or live/work in area that has been added since 07.

btw: imo, the oem premium audio/nav are awesome

Just got the notice for our 06 Lincoln Zephyr.. Since it hasnt been updated since new, we are going to do it. There have been a few times where it has been a bit confused in rural areas, and one update in 4 years isnt too much.

Call me a pirate or whatever, but I have copies of 7P and 8P. I can burn a copy for anyone that wants one(for a small fee). They work in a 2008 Expedition, not sure of compatibility. You can download the torrent file of all but the latest version online. I personally have a Pioneer Avic D3 indash. I got the nav disc for like $12 off ebay.

I love my '10 ST Sync/NAV system. I don't know about spending $199 for an update though.. I assume I have the current maps, I just bought the truck in FEB. I'll check my info screen for the current version.

I would not spend the money.....

Just curious... When we do upgrade, is there a market for the 06 Nav disc? (Not necessarily thru here, but any idea what it would be worth?)

If the vehicle is under manufacturer's warranty, they ought to provide the update for free. I used this argument with the Subaru zone manager and got a free update for the Outback's navigation system.

I have an in dash Pioneer in my 08. I have purchased original updated pioneer disks on eBay for a fraction of the 'retail" price and have also always found a buyer there for my outdated disks. I believe my version 7 disks went for about $15.00

Better then using them for coasters!

I sold my original Ford 7P disk on ebay for $66. People on ebay are crazy. You can download the files for free if you know how to burn them.
