Need a Programmer favor

I have a client that has just ordered 300 combo locks for his companies personel lockers. They have arrived but are not combinated. They are ALL set to 0000. Is there someone that can make/run a small script to generate me 300, 4 digit combinations? (the numbers are 1-9 on the dials) Or tell where I might find something to help. Trying to come up with 300 combos out of MY head,,,:blink:,,,,, no way......:huh:.... Also, if you guys can help, it would be so awesome if it could export it's way over to a excel file format. Thanks. I'm going to be spending most of the day stamping a serial number on these locks. FUN FUN FUN

put =INT(RAND()*9999) in the formula part of excel it will generate a random number between 1-9999

JD, that's working great, for the most part.... It doesn't generate ALL 4 digit numbers. They range from 1 -4.

JDBoxes had it right, he just needed a Custom format for the cells to make them show up with leading zeros.

Here is a list generated thru excel, if you see a 5 digit number simply drop the first digit. It was the only way I could keep the zero as a first digit within the formula.

Give it an amount and a range and hit go. Duplicate checking. It creates a comma delimited text file that can easily be opened in excel.



Looks like you got it sussed though. Oh well, I'll leave it up anyway just in case.

Here is a free on-line number generator. You simply put in the lowest and the highest number and how many numbers you want.



There is no provision to ensure you get a 4 digit number. But,,, if you say your lowest number is 1000 then you will get only 4 digit numbers back.



Or, simply add Zero's in front of the 2 or 3 digit numbers as there are no duplicates in the list anyways....

On a serious side, though--



Wouldn't it be easier, and more cost effective, to simply purchase 300 locks pre-set with combinations? I don't know the industry at all, but I would have guessed that the amount you're saving by buying uncombinated locks isn't enough to justify the extra labor you're needing to put into it. Note that I'm asking this completely out of personal curiosity--I'm in no way trying to cast doubt on your locksmith practices.

i would think the user would like to enter their own combo?? i set all of my locks with the same numbers so i don't have to remember a bunch of numbers... you may be going throught too much trouble LaRue... did the company ask for all of them to have different numbers?? if i was handoing out locks to 300 employees, it would be easier for me to tell them they are preset to 0000 and they can change it to their own number...

I would do it for you but it appears that Coastiejoe has already done it for you. Since he used a random number generator function, the only thing you may need to check is to insure there are no duplicate combinations (Yes random numbers can have duplicates).

Actually LaRue I could code this for you if you needed but as many others have pointed out that you alreadly have the tools at hand to do it... if you need a Palm PDA version let me know i might be able to wip it up...



Excel and VBA scrpit on alaptop is your best option at this point, it should be a simple application and log the values to a database for reference for you and the customer in the future,



let me know if you need some thing like this, again there must best some thing like this out there already....
