I was thinking of getting the 06 SRT jeep 420Hp ... with all the option it is 42,000 what u guys think,... or should i hold out forthe 07 Adranalin. being as i'm having tranny problem i'm thinking of trade in myST

I don't know Star, but that Jeep is pretty sweet. If I had the dough I'd seriously consider it. If you feel good about it and the options available then it might not be a bad idea. What type of warranty does it come with? Because if it's a standard 3 yr/ 36,000 miles then I wouldn't. Mainly because when you are out of warranty you will possibly still owe around 15K... Then again, you might be in a different money situation than me. :D

I've seen Speed Channel do it's testing on it and was really impressed. Holding out for the Adrenalin maybe a good thing as well. However, really not into Ford trying to be a performance company anymore after they dropped the SVT line.

They are way behind the curve where Dodge is with the SRT line.

Q - samething can be said about the Adrenalin that is not even in production. Ford needs a better warranty period. And, every vehicle has problems including our STs.

Don't hold your breath on the '07 Adrenalin. Thus far, it is only a concept and though ford "seems" to have something planned they admitted nothing in Dallas. Since what we saw as a concept is far removed from what was actually released this may need to be added to your decision as well. Keep in mind, both of these vehicle will be in there first production year and this is often a sign to wait for some of the bugs to be worked out rather than be a guinea pig.

Imo..your best case, $$$$ wise is to fix your trac and wait for the new one a few years, when the bugs are worked out of the first gen changeup....

Well ...all of u guys have a good point, and i would missed coming here if i leave the Ford world. But it is a big decision... but i' m thankfull to have a bunch guys that can help me make that right move. BTW my wife wants me to get an Nissan Frontier or another Titan like her, some how i dont think so.

I would weigh the cost benefit ratio. Will it cost you more to buy a new vehicle, keeping in mind that (like spaceman said) both the Jeep & ST will be in their first yr. of production. And consider how much it will cost you do either fix your existing tranny or put in a new one. Also, will your insurance go up on a newer vehicle. I would take a hard look at all of the surrounding costs. Even though we have had several challenges with the master cylindar on our 5 speed manual tranny, it is still cheaper to keep it than to trade it in on a new vehicle. Especially now that we have it paid off, and we have the XCal2 with the program for better gas milage. After 4-1/2 yrs. & over 100k we have had no major problems we plan on keeping it for another 100k unless it starts to nickle & dime us, but I hope that does not happen since we are doing preventative maintenance. :D

in my opinion i would holdd out for the 2nd year model. new cars like that always have little bugs in them that are fixed in the second year of roduction. the jeep srt8 looks awesome dont get me wrong but as some of the other members stated most jeeps have some problems...jsut for a little input on jeeps...high mpg,,,cat conv. always blows wayyyy too early...and you will have little problems here and there....my dads jeep cost him about 5gs in repairs over the first 4 years...my friends jeep blew the rear end and differentials blah blah blh...i would wait until you see some reviews.

IMO, hold out. My wife just got rid of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and we'll never own another Jeep. It was a problem child from the start. If you think the ST has problems, I could take up a whole post on the problems we had with the Jeep.;)

I am driving a 2005 rental right now with the 3.7 liter engine. Wifes car is in the shop. (She has stolen my Lexus for until it gets out of the shop). It is a decent vehicle. Keep in mind I am comparing it to my new ride, Lexus RX 300. But even compared to my Trac or my Wifes 4-door Explorer I prefer the Track or the Explorer over the Jeep. Mostly for comfort reasons. Ride is pretty close to the Track but much more stiffer than the Explorer.

Gas mileage is poor from what I am seeing. I have driven it for 2 days and have put in 25 dollars thus far. The 25 dollars will get me thru the third day and have enough to return it to Enterprise.

Is it me, or does the Jeep SRT8 look a lot like a Magnum? I can't believe Jepp is actually selling a Sport wagon. I guess it shows you can throw a Hemi into anything and it will sell. When will they bring back a Hemi-powered Gremlin or Pacer?

im sure they dont make jeeps like they used to, but i have owned a 91 and a 93 Jeep cherokee 4wd's. One was a (91)2 door the other is a (93)4 door. My 91 had like 160,000 on it, with some serious abuse on my part ie- 14 inches of lift and 35's, never had a major problem with it. Now i have a 93 4 door and i got it with 230,000 miles on it for 1500 bucks. i drove the heck out of that thing, eventually pulled the knockin 6 out for a 350 swap. I sold the 6 to a guy for 200 bucks it is still running today. ;)

I'm not a big fan of jeep styling except the more utilitarian CJ's. (form follows function). The 07 ST Will be much better to look at IMO.

Everyone I know that had a Grand Cherokee had lots of problems. They worked well when they worked.

Get the best of both worlds - I own a '94 Jeep Wrangler for the nice days and a '03 Sport Trac SLT for the other days. Actually adding a second child to the Travis stable was the reason I needed the ST - did not want to have to choose which kid would ride in the back of the Jeep in the rain!

ST is utilitarian in it's own right especially for anyone who is carting kids & equipment to baseball/football/ etc.

At least via the commercial the new Jeep is pretty tight.

I know this was no help but just letting all know that there is no better feeling than tooling around in a Jeep Wrangler with no top on (and possibly sans doors) on a beautiful day. Blows away ANY convertible available. ST had to have the Moon roof so I could emulate the top off effect which with all four, er 5, er 6 windows open all the way nn the ST is close.

Coastiejoe,

Serious question for you with regard to the RX300. I've thought about one for myself as well (wife has the IS300, old style) but everywhere I go I see only women driving the thing. Wife and daughter think it is a girlie vehicle (no disrespect intended) but it would fit my needs as well in 3 years when I'm up for a new vehicle (assuming I don't ditch the ST before then). Comments?

So far I am very happy with the RX300. Goes down the road great, handles nice considering it is a more luxery ride SUV. The more I drive it the more I like it. Complete coverage to 100 thousand miles. Hard to beat that. Something goes wrong you simply drop it off and they give you another one to drive until it is fixed. I have the all wheel drive model with the locking rear axle. It is evry bit as good as my 4X4 Trac was. I was concerned about that but have no worries from what I can see thus far.

I would have like to get the 330 model but just could not justify the extra money for the same basic vehicle. At this point I can honestly say I plan on buying a second one in the near future for my wife...
