I installed the factory trailor hitch but I would like to have a 7-pin connector rather than the standard 4 one my 03' ST came with. Is it a good idea to use an adapater to convert the 4 to a 7-pin or should i take it to a dealer to do it or what? lol I would appreciate any advice....

It's a do it yourself job that requires running 3 wires from the 7 pin connector to the cab of the truck but you need to purchase a brake controller. See my library for brake controller connection instructions, they all require the same connections.

Not real hard, but an RV dealer could do it fairly cheaply too(depending on the dealer...). I would have the 7pin installed and then use a 7 to 4 pin adapter if you need the 4pin. Either that, or just leave the existing 4 pin and add the 7 pin one next to it.

As mentioned, the extra pins are for the brake controller, so you will need to decide on that one too to hook extra wires to something(or just leave them hanging under the dash until you do decide). I have the Prodigy controller, and it works well for me.
