I have been stung by various bee's and various wasp's. Never a hornet or bumble bee.

Two days ago I got my first scorpion sting. Man did it hurt....

Felt like my foot had a hot coal inside. Left foot was on fire for 5 hrs. My tongue and lips got numb. Also a nasty taste in my mouth. That lasted almost 24 hrs.

I was able to catch the scorpion. About 2" long. I put it in a jar and it was dead 24 hrs' latter. I supose after working in a chemical plant for 33yrs. I must be some-what toxic...:bwahaha:

It was definitly a sting I never want again. Given a choice I will take a wasp sting.

We have two types of scorpions around here,@ Lake Livingston. Niether are the leathal ones. Dang It Huuuuurt!

Eddie,

Yep, those Texas scorpions have a very painful sting. I have been fortunate and never got stung but have a few friends who did and they say it was not fun....one of the most painful stings you can get.

At my old house there were a lot of scorpions around when I first bought the house...as well as fleas, ticks and chiggers. I used to put down bug killer (Dursban) about every couple of months before I got them under control. Then they banned the use of Dursban...that was the best flea and tick killer on the market at that time.

I remember when my Doberman got stung on her nose by a scorpion. She was under the shade of the back patio cover and I saw the scorpion crawling on the patio. The nosey dog went over to investigate and got stung on the nose. She did not yelp, but just backed off and snorted and sneezed for about 15 minutes and stayed about 2 feet away from the scorpion, just watching it with a lot of curiosity. Finally she just crushed it with her paw and it was over. I don't know if the scorpion stung her paw, but she did not react like she got stung.

I always thought it was kind of funny because the dog had a habit of sticking her nose into places it should not be stuck... unfortuantely, the scorpion sting did not cure that habit

Most venomous stings are painful. We have many, although scorpions are rare in most parts of Hawaii.

Most pain I remember was being wrapped in a large Portuguese man o' war. Took 3 weeks to heal.

I got a scorpion sting a few years ago in Texas while clearing brush at my sister's house. The site turned dark red after a few months and eventually healed with a small divot in my skin. A permanent reminder of my new experience.

Steve,

When we were teens. My uncle had a converted school bus, for camping. We would camp on Padre Island. Every morning we would have man-o-wars, all over the beach. We would dig holes with a shovel and bury them.

Rich,

Your dog didnt seem to be in pain. Or nose swell up.? I take my cat to the lake, when I stay a week or more. I was worried she would find one.

Mark,

I have a purplish red area on my foot. Can barely see the puncture. I believe mine is going to heal quikly..

Weird thing is it was inside mom's house. I woke up at 4am to pee. He got me walking down the hallway. Neighbor said, they killed one in their boys' room. Mom's lake house is brick and very well sealed. Bugs find ways in.

They never had them in the house before. I hope this is just a fluke. Seems like every year. Up at the lake, there is some sort of different insect to fight. Last year it was cow ants (wingless wasp) and 3 times the normal red wasp's. The fire ants always.

Mom is 83 with heart and other problems. The two species scorpions in Texas. Are only harmful or leathal to babies or the elderly with med problems.

Amazing how such a small achronid can cause that much pain.

Since living in Texas for the last 6 years. I now ALWAYS check my shoes before putting them on! Learned that the hard way. We also check our bedding before laying down. Kids learned that one. Not in the house very often but It happens. From our exp. we believe the smaller the more painful. weird
