bill v, your right i was typing when i was on the phone at work

but maybe i did mean 755* , as that right now is the only record i respect

If Bonds did not do steroids, why is his childhood friend in jail for not testifying?

Why did his hat size triple in the last 8 years?

OK, put an * next to Ruth, he was hopped up on hot dogs & beer, in addition various STDs.

Ruth HAD to have been a stud to do what he did back then. Dead ball, big parks, eating, drinking, and whoring all the time, and with only 16 teams in the league you faced the cream of the crop for pitchers (note that every time baseball expands by one team you effectively add 10 pitchers to the league who weren't good enough to play the year before). Also Ruth was an outstanding pitcher when he was younger but he was such a good hitter that they moved him to right field so they could have his bat in the game every day. In fact as a pitcher he won a World Series game for the Red Sox. Like to see Bonds try that. Ruth played until he was 40 but he was spent and died from cancer at age 53.

If he'd taken care of himself, lifted weights, taken 'roids, and played in today's ballparks, he'd have had 1000 home runs easy.

Ya know.

I thought the sport was about the player's natural ability to be so great at what he or she does.

Letting drugs slide in baseball (or any other sport) sends a message right back to the youth and aspiring athletes.

"It's okay to use drugs to make you good at what you're not."

Not that drug use is bad, because I don’t think it's an issue or debate. My beef is this:

We give honors to a guy who got there not on his own, but with the use of a synthetic. He only provided the will to cheat.

I think it's cheating and giving honors to cheaters WILL effect other people, including children.

Oh well. Maybe he'll have a heart attack from the steroid use and we'll give him a day in his honor.

TJR,

I refuse to argue with you about it and honestly, I could care less what you think. You do not matter to me.

Tom

Mud,

I agree with you 100%. Unfortunatly, a professional athlete is not a role model. I put 100% of the blame on the team owner and some of it on the fans. We would grow tired of only seeing a few home runs a game. We want to hear the crack of the bat and a ball going out of the park. We want to see a Grand Slam win the game.

Those athletes are only giving us what we want. Sure, in a perfect world, we could be like TJR (That is sarcasm TJR) but unfortunatly there is only one, we would not have to worry about "performance enhancing" drug usage.

If we do not like those athletes, do not watch the game on TV. Do not go to a game. Do not go to the HOF in Cooperstown. Only when team owners, sponsors, and the HOF see that the people do not like it, then the rules will change for the good of the game. Until then, it is only going to get worse.

For all we know, the team owners give it out in candy dishes. Just nobody is saying a word.

Hitting a major league curve or fastball is one of the most difficult things in sports. The average person here would see the pitcher's windup, then hear the ball hit the catcher's mitt, and nothing in between. If taking a pill could make you hit home runs, then everybody would be doing it. Bonds was a great hitter already, 'roids just let him work out harder to get stronger and hit harder.

Sad thing is, in all likelyhood he would have broken the record without them.

I used to play beer-league softball with a guy who got as far as AA ball and he was unbelievable.

Translation: Yeah, of course I was being sarcastic. I guess I don't even recognize when I am being sarcastic since I am so often. TJR clearly demonstrated that I was being sarcastic. I guess I was wrong. Best to bow out with my tail betwix my legs.

That was a TJR translation. Whatever fits you thoughts is the right one...am I correct.

Honestly, I could care less what you think. You single me out knowing that I do not back down from a confrontation. Frankly I am tired of you always pointing a finger at me. You just are not worth it.

Tom

Caymen,

I didn't single you out. There must be at least dozen "C'mon Tom do you really mean that!" type replies in this thread to your original post and your followups. It seems you only had issue with mine. So who is singling out whom, exactly?

Once again, I can't understand the Caymen logic. Your first post was the textbook definition of sarcasm. You said with irony one thing, that seemingly wasn't actually meant, to show your distain and contempt for something else. Textbook. Look it up.

The fact that you won't recognize it or agree to it is probably because I brought it up. If I were to say that sky is blue and the grass is green, I suspect you would disagree with that too.

Though you seem to not care about me, I actually can't say that about you. I care about all people.

Later.

Caymen,

Please take this as constructive criticism rather than a personal attack on you. I enjoy your posts (mostly) and it is obvious you would give your left arm to help another ST owner with a problem but...

A large number of your posts display an apparent anger or problem with authority figures.

You use absolutes too much. An example in this post is the statement that steroid use is 100% the fault of owners and fans when any reasonable & objective person will agree the athlete is primarily the party responsible for steroid use.

It is obvious you are passionate about certain topics but your constant tendency to point out the victimization of the common man gets old and not everyone is always attacking your beliefs.

However, the board would not be the same without you so keep posting.

fkent,

there are so many "double standards" out there is a sickening. We, as a people, will bend over backwards to support a company that that is being helped by their own country while hard working man and women in our country are getting pink slips.

That is perfectly acceptable with us. The problem I see is that it affects me, you, the neighbor, etc. It isn't funny when we are the one getting a pink slip.

We are upset that a pro athlete will use steroids to enhance his performance. We get upset. We whine and complain about it. As if it really matters to you or I? Does it make a lick of difference in our life if Bonds hits another home run? Does it make a difference if any ball team wins a game. Sure, I like baseball as much as the next guy. I love to sit in the croud and cheer a player to hit a home run, great catch, or an awesome steal. I sit in the park hoping a ball comes to me to take home a souvi. If the Indians lose every game, it doesn't change my life. It doesn't jeopardize my economic status. It has no bearing on my paycheck.

Why should we care about that game. I am worried about my neighbor getting layed off. That can affect me. He might have to move away to a new town and I end up with a @$$hole neighbor. Why should we support any company that gets assistance from thier home country when our own country turns their back to a company based in the USA? I am not saying that the government should suppliment our corporations, but I do feel that trade should be recriprical.

Mississippi has thier out of state fishing fees perfectly fair. Whatever it will cost for one of our residents to fish in your state is what it will cost in my state.

So if Ohio says an out of state fisherman has to pay $100.00 for a licence, but West Virginia is only $10.00. The guy from Ohio is going to get screwed by his own state if he wants to fish in Mississippi, but the guy from WV isn't.

And we are really getting tired of seeing the same cartoon posted as part of your signature. Pleeeease remove it Caymen or at least replace it every now and then with a new one.

I can not do it. I am unable to access the area where I can edit the signature.

This is what will replace it.

Tom T--Just do what I do: Turn all the signatures off. Except on the rare occasion where the signatures become part of the topic of conversation, like it has here, you'll never even notice that you're missing anything.

I like seeing people sigs! It's like the unoffical calling card to that members mysporttrac identity! But i do agree with at least reducing the size of em a bit.

I'm with you WoppyV. I like to look at signatures also. But when your signature requires scrolling half way down the page every time you post then it gets a little annoying.
