Good afternoon as a new member. In the past I've been a beneficiary of the experiences & knowledge of contributing members. Now I can also contribute.

I share the location of the fuel pressure regulator/damper on a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac for the benefit of others who have spent hours looking for it. It is located at the end of the fuel rail on the driver's side, very close to the firewall.

Yes ... you must remove the plenum to get to it. We first tried removing the ignition coil, but could not get to it.

2001 had 2 engines, would help if you state what motor this was.

Is one motor better or more HP than other? I bought an identical 01 ST from estate sale, it
recently had most all front end and rear components replaced. Got it home noticed small differences at motor. Where or what to look for to identify which type? Thanks.

Hi! I'm also new. I also have a 01 Sports Trac that I'm trying to restore. I can him Toothless. I'm trying to figure out the tools needed for removing the door panels. I need to replace 2 interior and 2 exterior handles. Then reprogram the door locks. If you can help, I would appreciate it greatly!
Thanks
Rebecca

No special tools are required, screwdrivers are sufficient. If you want to upgrade a bit, consider a kit like the one in the attached photo. Recommend having extra door panel clips, they may come in handy.

Enjoy!

Harbor Freight also has the anti-mar tools pictured above.

Both early and late 2001 Trac motors were the V6 4.0L SOHC short lower block. Early 2001 had older valve cover design and older variable intake manifold that looked like a pretzel. Late 2001 had newer valve covers and newer intake design, oil fill on the right instead older left. Best to avoid those early SOHC motors, too many problems including the original bad timing tensioner designs.

By 2024 there should be no s/t with out a replacement upper half. I got 6 or 7 s/t s forget now. Lol ....all with tranny /engine replacements....,

Did it have two enhines
Or same engine with different intake manifolds
Same lower "short block", different oil filter, valve covers, intake manifold, throttle body,...

Same here, both 2001 but different oil fill locations and manifold
