Got my new HU installed - it's used, but I got it for $345 shipped with the sirius tuner and the backup cam

Nav, Sirius, backup cam, dvd (controls external dvd in rear), etc.

Yeah, I know, the paint is flaking on the surround trim...it'll get painted when I can find the color I like.

It obviously fit poorly without any type of kit, so I used a 'Metra' double-din kit from installer.com and it didn't work well, as you can see. I believe the reason being, the faceplate of the nav unit has to open downward to allow putting in cds and dvds. Even now, I'm having some trouble lowering the faceplate all the way to the bottom to change nav dvds without simply pulling the black kit trim piece off (good thing I rarely ever do that).

I used some real light adhesive foam that secured the HU and the trim very well (it ain't goin' nowhere). That was the key to keeping it from moving.

I had to do quite a bit of dremel'ing on the lip of the surround trim, as the double-din wouldn't fit.

Looks awesome..a lil color on the surround trim and you are there..

You did a great job!!!!

Good job! Looks a pro did it.

I have a question about your pics: Why do they look like paintings? Is that something you did or is it my computer? I've seen a few lately with the same effect going.

looks good. i did the same thing in my jeep except with an alpine. Had to trim the dash alot, except i'm a college kid with little access to tools so i was stuck using a steak knife and some sand paper. I dont think it looks so bad given the circumstances. You considering unlocking it to play movies while not in park? Its much easier to do on a pioneer then any other brand. I've had the same problems with it opening and closing as well. Kind of a pain to deal with, especially if you want to switch disc while driving. Here's a pic of mine for comparison. Enjoy yours.

thanks for the paint code - i'll be doing that when it gets a little warmer out

the model I have is the AVIC D1, an older model that doesn't directly play dvds (dvd-rom drive), but it controls an external dvd player. I used my factory dvd in the back as an 'aux monitor' that plays the dvds and I can watch it and control it from my HU.

I tried the bypass mod, but F'd it up. I downgraded the software and left it as is. I tend to get a little swervy on the road when trying to input routes...as with my magellan.
