Now that you've seen the NEW ST...?

I must have gotten one of those "special" Tracs that they built with the H.O. engine instead of the 4.0. I always thought mine had plenty of power, and that it felt like way more than the advertised power.

However, I don't care for the 2007 styling too much, I preferred the old look, yet the new one has something unique to it making it it's own sort of Trac which keeps drawing my eye. I do think they lost some of the Trac's personality with the new design (IRS, ESC, no SRW, chrome) so I won't be racing out there to get one. However I am drawn to the SVT, hopefully it is built on the job 2 with a sliding rear window, but I don't suppose we can get a solid axle on it.

My 01J2 will be around for a while.

I think I'll get meself a Shelby GT and an Adrenalin in 2008.

Mines been paid off for a while & I like that.

Plus I've done a lot of mods on mine & it finally looks the way I want it to also.

The new model will be good for some people, but not for me.

Now I'm just waiting for someone to find a way to cram a small V8 in these things, which I'm sure will happen at some point & then I'll follow their lead:D

Ford will be adding the power rear window later in the production year or as an '08 model. The rear window was a nice feature, but nothing that's a 'make or break' deal for me. Same goes for the IRS...

There will be a V8 option on the '07, Tonka Trac. And a 5.0L fits nicely in the current ST, as I've seen plenty of Explorers with that engine. Looks no more cramped than the 4.0L.

Thanks Darin. I'm just too scared to start a project that I might regret:)

I'm waiting for someone else (AKA a guinea pig) to do the swap so I can steal, er, borrow from their expertise;)

I'd need a step by step complete with parts etc to even attempt it. But it sure would be nice!

I really like my '02, but eventually all things must be replaced. I can't say I'm overwhelmed by the new ST, but I like it better than the alternatives and think I'll really like it when I can see it in some different colors and trim (and not overly modified pictures with fake mud and dust). I really like the idea of a V-8 rumble, updated interior and a bit larger bed. I did have an '06 Explorer for about two months as a rental while my wife's Mini was being repaired. Have to say, it drove much nicer than my ST (and yes, I've replaced the shocks on mine) and it is much quieter (amazingly quieter). Although longer, I assume '07 ST will drive similar and be about as quiet. I never could get used to the door handles for shutting the door though. The one for opening it is odd, but works fine and is easy to get used to. Needs to have an indentation in the armrest that you can use for shutting the door. However, the rear window on the ST must be fixed. I love it for the airflow and don't know how many times I've had boards, pipe, etc, stuck through there. I can't completely explain why that silly feature is so important, but it is. (Note to Ford - when you fix it, make sure it goes all the way down just like the current ST). Would like to have been a fly on the wall during the meetings at Ford where that door handle and power rear window (lack of) were approved. I'm sure there are reasons, but they better be real good.

Fred,

That Corvair pickup definitely came to mind when I spotted the concept truck. LOL

The concept truck had a 4-door cab, like ours or a crew cab. The truck bed seemed like it had a full sized bed (for a 4-door PU) and it had swing open doors in the side between the rear wheel well and the rear of the cab.

If I recall, didn't the corvair side doors drop down like ramps?

I love my ST. I only have 13,000 miles on her since Aug of 03 and will probably keep it around for a long time. I will just keep buying beater cars for work travel.:D I do like the new ST styling.

I love my '03 and like the idea of the V8 in the '07. The style is nice but not crazy about the chrome grill. (not a big chrome fan) Anyway, won't be in the market for a new vehicle till 2010, if the '03 is still good in2010 then may just hold on to it. The only reason I got rid of my '89 Toy pickup was the body was rusting off and had 1 kid with 1 more on the way. No way of getting both of them in the standard cab Toy.;)

May pick up a 08 or 09... It just hasn't "grown" on my yet, Still looks like a Nissan and a Honda had a baby...

I'll be keeping Jade for a long while. I'm way too happy with her. Hell, last night I got her up to 120 mph for the first time on the highway. I do like the new ST, but I'm not thrilled over the fact that I won't be able to lower it. If they build the SVT, I'll probably pick one up if something ever happens to Jade. If not, I'll get a used '04 and build another "NX-class" project.
