I guess its time to get a code reader. What to buy? I have a 2004 GM malibu and of course a 02 trac. What are your recommendations without breaking the bank?

thanks in advance.

actually i dont think the CAN system kicks in until this years models

and some fords from 07 but not all.

i would defintiely buy OBD II and CAN capable for future use.

if its for home use then i would stick with a $100 unit

if you do side work like i do then i would go with a better model

i personally like the autoXray line of scanners

and im getting ready to purchase this model.

I've used a very similar AutoXray model and it was a nice unit. It's more than what a general home user needs but it's definately a nice unit. I've been contemplating purchasing one myself. When I do I will buy OBDII and CAN capable model.

This setup from Tekmate can scan and clear codes, as well as display gauges from a number of sensors, time 1/4 mile runs and calculate HP (based on frontal area and vehicle weight), and data log driving.
