I gave up cigarettes in 1984, and have been able to maintain a smoke free vehicle ever since. Last week end I loaned my ST to a couple I've been helping out as they needed to make a 1000 mi. round trip and their car wouldn't make it. They both smoke and I know they probably rolled a window part way down when they smoked but with the A/C running it had to get in there. Can anyone tell me where the fresh air intake duct for the Air/Heat is located. Is it in the core support or in the fender skirt or in front of the windshield?

Thanks Guys & Gals for helping this old man.

The main A.C. intake is under the glove box to the left, the other is right next to the windshield, not the defrost vents, the very front.Inside, not outside.

You can locate them with cigarette smoke, I did:)

I don't know about you guys, but I think that smoking in someone else's vehicle is as rude and inappropriate as shitting on someone else's living room carpet.

Mark,

I am with you...

I would be VERY UPSET if someone was to do that to me...

My mother even knows NOT to light up if I am giving her a ride.....

Good luck getting the odor out, hope it goes smooth for you.....

Problem is that some people can't last a half hour without lighting up. Saw the airport deputies handcuff a guy getting off a plane once because he disabled the smoke detector in the airplane bathroom to have a cig. That 1000 mile trip might have taken them two weeks if they stopped to get out every time they needed to smoke.

Anyway, there is a product you can buy called Fresh Wave, I think Bed Bath and Beyond sells it. I get it by the gallon for my company since last year, they told us that Hertz uses it in the rental cars. Three sprays in the front seat, three in the rear, and it should be good. It absorbs freaking everything. Just to test it, I smoked two cigars in the Trac on my way home from Columbus, OH last year. Got home, three sprays in the front and three in the back, and presto, no cigar smell. They also have a gel dish that you just leave open and it works all the time.

Also I'd suggest using an extractor cleaner on the seats. The smell isn't likely coming from the A/C vents since they blow out. It is probably absorbed into the upholstery unless you have leather.

I used Oust in the intake, both on the floor and the dash. Seemed to work pretty well. Unfortunately, the previous owners were smokers, but between Frebreze, body spray, and now the Oust, it's all but gone.

I'll have to try the fresh wave, too and hopefully it'll be gone for good. :btddhorse:

Johnny,

While I agree with you in that some people can't make it 20 minutes, the issue is, if I lent them my vehicle then they live by my rules...

If they cannot respect me enough to do that, then find another ride....

When I was 17 years old in 1977, my dad lit up in my car when he borrowed it. When I discovered what he'd done, I marched right in to the house and gave him an anger-filled repremand that's never been repeated. He tried the "as long as you're living under this roof" thing, but that was MY car that I paid for. I was reimbursing my parents for insurance. I was buying my own gas.

To this day, mom and dad and my brother KNOW they don't come near my vehicle with a lit cigarette.

The best solution is not to smoke in a vehicle in the first place. Yes, IMO it was out of line for them to smoke in your vehicle. Suggestion, carefully explain to them that since you don't smoke, you will be taking it to your local detailer and have everything cleaned and they should be responsible for the bill.:banghead: You don't want to lose a friend, so be tactfull.:fire: BC

Is there an in-cabin air filter on your truck? May want to put a new one in...

No doubt. He could have Stanley Steemer clean the seats and send them the bill. Stanley won't do headliners though, need a home unit for that with less suction.
