I just had my tranny fluid changed last week. I changed my oil this weekend and when i was under the truck I noticed oil leaking from the transmission cover. I'm not sure if its tranny fluid. thats what I'm suspecting. Is there anyway oil could leak that way? Its going to the shop tomorrow morning.

I thought it looked redish but my father thinks its oil. If its oil where could it be coming from to leak by the transmission?

Dab the oil with a white paper towel and then see what color it is on the towel. As previously stated, tranny fluid will look red or redish brown (if it's old and burnt) and motor oil will be a light brown to black color.

If you are still not sure, you can buy a dye at auto parts stores that you add to your tranny dip stick tube that will dye your tranny fluid a very vivid red color. After driving around for a few days you will not have any problem identifying the bright red tranny fluid,

If you over or under tightened the trans pan bolts. It will leak. Especialy if you used the gasket on the pan.

Did you use the gasket or silicone on the trans pan?

Eddie..I had a shop change out my tranny fluid last week...I didn't do it..hopefully its just a gasket and its on their dime.

as long as the leak just started, since you just had the tranny fluid changed my bet would be that it is tranny fluid. They probably didn't torque the pan on right.
