Couple of days ago I noticed a small amount of oil in the garage so I went ahead and got an oil change because I was due found oil in the corner of the lower oil pan but a little oil hopefully blow back right above making it possible the rear main seal. Cleaned it all off and went and bought a bottle of UV dye. I figure by Friday it should show up when I stop back by my buddies shop to rack it and take a look. Hoping its just the lower oil pan that's an easy job. 92,000 miles I guess somethings are bound to start going.

rear main will leak, between the torque convertor housing, and motor seperator plate.

Might not see it on the oil pan. it will blow back on the trans.

I have noticed an "oil burning smell" coming from my engine area, and it looks like it might be slightly smoking from just below the valve cover area on the drivers side. I can only see the wisps of smoke when I open my hood to look and see where it is coming from. Does this seem like it may be time for a valve cover gasket change? Has anyone here had their valve covers gaskets changed? at what mileage did you get it done? What did it cost you and did you have it done at a Ford dealer? I have never had an engine problem with my 2001, but after 237,000 miles I suppose it it necessary. Would there be a maintenace schedule for this or not? Just started about a month ago. I thought the last oil change had maybe gotten some oil spilled over onto the manifold or something, so I really didn'tthink that it could be time to replace those valve covers. Any tips would be greatly appreciated from you members with expertise or valid opinions!

Marvin,

I recall reading about the cam moving backwards causing a small hole in the back of the valve cover. You might check for this hole, and I am sure someone will chime in about this possibility. (Just going from memory myself)

Dave, maybe it's a "duh":smack: moment for me, but where and what is the "cam" on my 2001? First time I have heard of it, so clue me in. Why would this "cam' be able to move? Is this a normal movement of this part?
