Bill, that Mossberg rifle is new to the market (less than a year). That particular rifle design has been made by several different companies in the last 10 years. Mossberg bought the rights to it when the previous maker (ATR) went out of business. Mossberg made quite a few changes and reintroduced it. Probably a good gun, but it's impossible to know the weak spots with so little history for the changed design.
My suggestion: For the same money, Savage just introduced a repackaged version of their 110 rifle, in .270 and .30-06, under the "Stevens" brand name. I have seen them in the display at WalMart. With the exception of the branding and a grey synthetic stock color, it is the same rifle as the Savage. Savage has a reputation for excellent reliabiltiy and accuracy, and the rifle is well proven. I would choose it over the Mossberg, at least until a couple more seasons have come and gone for the Mossberg.
