hey guys we had a strange occurance with the Escape this morning

it is an 05 with the 4 banger, awd and AT. on the way to church

my wife couldnt accelerate as in the "gas pedal would not push down"

i had her roll to the side of the road and make sure the floor mat was not balled

up under the pedal and it wasnt, after about a minute of sitting there the gas

pedal decided to work again and was fine the rest of the day there and back home

again.

by the way i would have searched or asked this on the Escape Central forum but

i have been waiting for almost 2 weeks for my account to be activated by the administrator

thanks in advance

I have seen where throttle body's wear at the shaft that pivots when you push down the gas pedal. The shaft either is VERY hard to push or locks up as it "cocks" within the pivot area. You can normally operate it by hand as you grad the part where the throttle cable connects and spin it. But, when you push with the pedal it is more of a pull, not a twist, this pull binds the shaft, thus the pedal does not move...

If you have a warranty, have it looked at. Could be bad if it sticks open or stick closed when you need to get out of the way.

We have a '01 Escape never had that problem. Actually it has been trouble free, to be the first year...

Is it a throttle cable or Drive by wire ???

I bet as stated the pedal gets twisted and jammed on the pivot bracket and locks up....

yeah its still under the bumper to bumper for another year and a half and only has 16k on it

humidity wise it was very damp today but the temps were in the low 50s so i dont think it iced up especially since we had been driving for a while and it was up to temperature.

Todd, i didnt pop the hood to look so to be honest im not sure if its drive by wire or an actual

cable.

either way i taught my wife what to do should it happen again and i guess its going in the shop to get checked out ASAP
