All Over the East Coast,
At what frequency does Pioneer update their HD-based navigation? E.g., Garmin releases updates that relatively follow MapSource's yearly full updates.

And, what is the process for overcoming the limitation on programming the unit when moving?

Finally, is it possible to use the stock Audiophile components? I'm not sure if I would be up to, in addition to the unit, throwing in new door speakers, sub, and amp, all at once.

Edit: One other thing. Where did you mount the GPS/XM antenna?

Thanks folks.

I have the AVIC-D2 which is similar:

Pioneer updates about every two years from what I understand. The updates are very expensive. ($150+)

You can bypass the limitation on programing while driving. On the D2 you have to ground a wire on the back of the head unit. Not sure on the Z1 but if you search you will find out how to do it. There are kits on Ebay to do this on some units.

I use my stock speakers (for now). No problems thus far. Fair sound quality.

GPS/XM antenna routed through firewall - up passenger door jam in front window seal - and mounted 6" from the front windshield on the passenger side. They are magnetic with sticky tape for the wires. You can not see any of my wiring except at the antenna itself.

I have the AVIC-Z1 and Pioneer has yet to release it's update for the HD-based navigation unit. Hopefully it will be more often than they do for the DVD based models.

To bypass the limitation on programming while driving ther are 2 things that need to be done:

1. Ground the light green parking brake wiring coming from the Z1.

2. Ground a single lead in Connector #2 that is not normally used by the Z1. I don't remember the exact pin number.

I am using the stock amp and subwoofer in my 07 ST. All you do is use the connectors that can be ordered from Crutchfield and it's plug and play from there.

My GPS antenna is mounted under the center dashboard console.

Adam, I dont have the pioneer. But I am sure the antenna should be the same. I mounted it to the dash in front of the driver. As long as you dont have a heated windscreen, it should work fine. It just needs a clear veiw to the sky.

I have the Z1 w/ the "Ducati boy" circuit to allow programming on the fly. Go to avic411.com and you will find it under the Z1 site- about $30.00. My installer said its a very slick unit. I don't know about the Nav update, but I'm not expecting much change here- if you turn too far left or right you are in the ocean....

I mounted the GPS receiver directly above the Pioneer head unit but under the the dash. In the center of your dash there is a tray area, the GPS receiver is directly under that tray area. I don't have XM satelite.
