My wife has an 05 ST and if she turns the wheel sharply, say to make a u-turn, you can sometimes hear a popping noise. The vehicle only has 15000 miles on it so I wouldn't think it would be something like the ball-joints going out already? If anyone else has had this problem or has an idea of what it might be, please chime in. Also, I haven't seen any recall notices on this yet either....??

It is the Turn stops, They simply need grease.......

The factory does not grease them due to EPA regulations, But you can....

ToddZ,

Thanks for the info. My wife has her truck at work now so can you give me a general idea of where the turn-stops are? Also, do you know what grease is recommended for use on them?

Thanks!

Dan, any marine grease so the road water will not wash it away.....

You only need a little tube of it.......

The stops are located by the wheel.... One is a stub that sticks out off one side and the other side on the control arm is a 1/2 moon shaped receiver..

this is one thing I do not have a picture of....

Hopefully some one will have it to post...

Turn the the wheel all the way, left or right. Look under on the back side of the lower control arm for the contact point. That is the place to lube...;)

Here is a link to another post about the turn stops that include a picture of their location.

OK, I apologize in advance--but I can resist asking....

I've never heard a Poping sound from a vehicle before. When it happens, is the Pope speaking in Italian or Latin? :D

it is in German......:lol::lol::lol:

jfire--You're thinking of John Paul II, who doesn't make much noise anymore. Benedict XVI, on the other hand, still makes plenty of noise--just ask the fundamentalist Muslims. :)

And if your vehicle makes a Poping noise, does that make it the Popemobile? :D

After reading this and seeing the pics in the link, I went out and greased my stops and my "grinding" noise that I referred to in another post is gone. I could tell by the looks of the stops that they were grinding metal on metal. Thanks guys.
