Power Seat

Driver power seat in '02 Trac travels only about 1" on the rail forward-back from full back position. Compared to passenger side, driver's seat maxes out about 3" farther back.



I am especially concerned as I was planning to give the Trac to my daughter, who is much shorter than me. Wifey, who is about same size as daughter, sat in the Trac tonight and could hardly reach the pedals.



I cleaned underneath the seat, it seems like nothing is blocking the seat.



Any ideas before I have Ford $ervice dep't. take a look?

Did you try to have some one push on the back of the seat to "help" it travel forward ???



The track may have dust stuck on it stopping the seat from moving...



You may also have a regular mechanic shop look at it rather then pay the dealers prices... To remove a seat is a joke, and easy to clean and lube the motor cables and tracks..

Five bolts and the seat is free. There are two connectors and you can remove the seat from the trac.

This one's got me bamboozled. Removed the seat, cleaned everything (wasn't too dirty). Lubed track and screw drive. Everything looks straight, no binding or anything. And no improvement.



The top channel tops out with 1/2" of bottom slide protruding in front. Tried pushing the seat, no good.



I was inclined to think that this is about as far forward as it ever went, but the wife swears it used to adjust fine for her. Also, the passenger side is a good 2-3" farther front than this one.



I need a fix for that seat, or maybe a long legged gal...........

What happens is over time the gears in the motor and the trac wear, when this happens everyhting doesn't move exactly the same and it binds up and then the motor stops working. I have replaced more seat transmissions than I can shake a stick at. It sucks that Ford doesn't lket you buy each motor seperately to fix the problem, instead you have to buy the whole assembly and that is a bit pricey.

Does anyone know if the Trac takes the same seat assembly as an Explorer? Or if a manual mechanism will bolt on with seat made for a power seat?

Should be the same assembly as the Explorer. I have also swapped alot of manual trac assemblied in place of the power ones, bolts right up.

Thought I was gonna be out about 4 bills for a new mechanism. Popped the seat off and took one last look.



Last couple nights I focused mainly on the two main rails and the screw drives. Turns out it was the side rail (with the seatbelt anchor) that was binding up. Looks like the wire and the X cutout in the floor cover got in the way of the slide and caused it to bind, then bend, then throw the carriage off the top of the siderail. A few coats of white grease and a bit of English w/ a prybar and it works real fine.



This 2002 Trac has been a good vehicle, no unusual problems, 72,000mi. Had to make a trip on the worst weather day of the year and the thing ate up a foot of snow on ice for 175mi at speed. Really surprised me, as the best snoweater I ever drove before was a Subie, and the Trac did great. Michelin boots make all the difference over those ratty Goodyears.



I hope the daughter likes the Trac as much as I do. She just lights up every time I loan her the keys.
