Hello,

I found a NEW 2008 Sport Trac XLT V6 4X4 and wanted to get some of your thoughts regarding a decent purchasing price. I do realize that it is essentially two years old, but thinking it may be able to fit my budget. Below are some of the details

MSRP = 32,985

It comes with

Moonroof

Convienence pckg

xlt appearance pckg

heated winshield

cdx6 mp3 radio

pwr adj pedles

cargo cage

crossbars

reverse sensing system

hard tonnea

I need to talk with them to understand why its still on the lot? Demo? how many miles are on it. But its listed as new and was just wondering if you had any thoughts as to a sale price on something that is 2 years old?

offer them 23K, pay no more then 25K if it is brand new.

but you really need to know the miles. sometimes a dealer will consider a demo as "new".

3-5K of demo miles can be tough miles.

as far as an 08, there are a bunch of new 08 edge's out there that they are giving great deals on.

good luck

When I went to a Chevy dealership, I tried to make an offer on a "new" vehicle essentially 2 years after. According to financing, they consider it used by when a new model year comes out. So if you financing it, it may be cheaper by the month to get a real brand new one. The financing will be as low as 0 percent and peak at like 5 percent. used financing rates are generally between 8 and 13 percent. I bought my 05 sport trac in feburary as "Certified Pre-Owned". I think this is the way to go. It has new brakes, tires, and a sweet detail. I got 6 year/100K mile bumper to bumper warranty which will cover everything that breaks on it including the radio, a/c, etc. Oh ya did I mention that it was only 13K with the warranty and taxes? Not to mention that it only had 45,000 miles on it. I am assuming you probably like the newer body style, so check into an 07 or 08 as a used certified pre owned, you will pay 6 or so grand less. I would guess like 18, and no more than 20 grand fully loaded.

I was looking at an 08 XLT 4x4 with a v8 with all the options you listed minus the heated windshield but it had sync and they were asking $24,000....I walked away

I think that the financing dept at that dealer was just trying to BS you to make money on selling you a higher interest loan. No matter how long a vehicle has been on the lot, if it's never been titled, then it's still considered new. So you should be able (if you qualify) to get the same financing deals as someone buying a new current-year vehicle.

I bought a new (never been titled) '96 Ranger in February of '97. That was about six months into the 1997 model year. I was able to finance it at the new car rates, not the used car rates.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the heated windshield only available during the 2007 model year?

Back in November of 08, we found a new 07 Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 with virtually every available option on a lot. Sticker price was 40,200, the dealer was selling it for 19,800. We brought it home overnight for an extended test drive, but ultimately decided it was a little too big for my wife's daily driver. While I love the Lexus we got instead, I often kick myself for passing up on such a deal.

They are starting to sell again. I bought mine and was offered a 4K discount. Now it's 2500. Request a brochure online and get a coupon for $750. The '09 is listed for $28K so make a low offer and see what you get. Good luck, Tim

Thanks for the feedback. I have not decided for sure what I am going to do. It has not sold yet. I did find out that it is new and not a Demo.

Thanks
