question about tranny

when going downhill about 10 mph i tried to shift my auto tranny into first so i didnt have to use my brakes but it just kept acting like it was in drive. anyone know why?

because you're only doing 10mph. If you're not in another gear why would you notice an upshift?

if you are going over a certain speed it will not down shift this keeps it from blowing up. but it should not up shift any in the 1 position.

Many early model Sport Trac transmission would not down shift regardless of speed. Some members had to get their transmissions fixed for that reason.



I don't know what the speeds are that should allow down shifting but they are only approximate speeds and may vary slightly from vehicle to vehicle.
