I'm looking for a more quieter tires than what I have. I bought a used 2003 with 255-70R 16.

I don't really care for the "Off road" look, I just want a smoother, quieter ride.

Any suggestions?

is the noise the tires and not a hub bearing or something else ???

What make & model tire on your ST now? I am running Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza's that run nice and quiet. It all depends on the make & model; as an example I had on TOYO Open Country A/T's that gave me a pretty quiet ride. So, as Todd Z said take a look at what else could be causing the noise too because just changing the tires may not solve your problem.

Firestone Destination LE's... very quiet... also Firestone cannot afford to make a bad tire..

have them on my wifes Escape (25K so far) My boss has them on his 4-Runner with over 50K and still alot of tread left..

go to www.tirerack.com and look at reviews...

I have a 03 XLT I bought used from CARMAX. It has 34K miles and the tires I believe are original. The noise is definitely the tires. There is plenty of tread, but there is slight cupping inside on the rear, which I believe were on the front before they rotated them. The noise is from the rear and only noticeable at high speeds. The noise is like a whomp whomp whomp  only faster at high speeds.

The current front tires are wearing pretty evenly, I have no pulling- drives very straight.

Tires are Goodyear Wrangler RT/S 255-70R 16.

If you do a site search you'll find that those tires are notorious for cupping on the ST. I think I saw something recently about a tire cupping TSB recently. The problem stems from bad shocks. I have a strong feeling that you have the OEM shocks, and you need to upgrade them ASAP; along with a new rear anti-sway bar from either of these site sponsors - Explorer Express or ZabTeck. Also, have you upper & lower front control arm bushings checked.

If your ST is not a 4x4 and you don't have a need for off-road tires then get Bridgestone Dueler Alenza's. Absolutely the best tires I have ever owned. My truck came with Michelins and the Alenzas are a big improvement over them. And like Roger said, replace those oem shocks immediately.

The Goodyear Fortera Silent Armors I have now are pretty quiet. No longer do I hear "whop whop whop" going down certain streets when I had original GY RTS's. Good traction so far although I've yet to experience them in very wet weather, which incidentally, is the main reason I replaced the RTS's...they were scary in the rain. Another reason was the original tires were cupping but this is occurring on the Forteras too. However, I must say though that these Forteras are some of the best looking tires I've seen and I've been pretty happy with them so far. They do cost a pretty penny. BTW, the rear tires are no longer cupped after rotating them from the front so I guess this'll have to do.
