i just picked up a radio wiring harness for the ST to hook up the clarion MAX675VD I bought. most of the wires match up with the wires coming out of the HU. the question i have is that on the harness, 2 wires are left unmatched - "dimmer ground" an orange wire with a black stripe, and "amplifier ground" a black wire with a white stripe. do these just get grounded? I have no clue!!

also, on the head unit itself, an "amplifier turn-on cord" and "auto antenna" will be left unconnected as nothing matches on the wiring harness....

also, for the install itself, looks like the radio bezel will need some trimming, but in addition should i buy the metra kit for it, or not?

can someone please clarify these point? thanks.

The only wires you NEED to hook up are...

Red, yellow, black, both whites, both greys, both greens and both purples.

On the rest, if you have one on each side, hook 'em up. If not, don't worry about them.

If you get a dash kit and the radio is a single din, you don't have to trim anything.

RS. The dimmer ground/orange wire with black stripe is not necessary. All it does is dim the radio when you turn your lights on so that it doesnt blind you. but it wont so dont worry about it. the amplifier ground is not necssary either. you dont need to do anything with either of those. just leave them as is and make sure they arent going to touch any metal so cover up their copper(just in case). ON the back of HU you have the amplifier turn on cord(should be blue) that is for if you want to hook up an external amplifier. it doesnt go to the wireing harness. you would need to run a separate wire from that to your amp. the auto antenna doesent matter because you dont have one so just leave it alone. i cant help you with the bezel though. i stick with single dins and a kit it sounds like you may have double din

thanks for you help guys. i really appreciate it.

yes, sorry, i should have eloborated a bit. it is a double din unit, similar to the AVIC's. the bezel will need some trimming as the plastic gets in the way. i was just wondering if there was a double-din kit that trims it off nicely. also, since there are no mounting brackets, will it just sit in there?

Clay: i have this same unti installed in my altima but had it done 2 years ago. the auto dimming feature is nice. perhaps there is another wire i could tap into?

Most kits should come with a bracket that screws into the back of the radio so that you can attach the radio to the slider bracket where the radio sits. The picture should illustrate what I said, it's the black plastic thing in the middle of the hole
