Having rear time chain being replaced at Ford dealer. Need to remove engine to replace. I have never heard of a rear timing chain??? Why is this engine soooo complicated??? This is the 3rd issue regarding timing chains. I have owned ST for 2 years now and have been very unimpressed with it. I dont think I'll ever own another Ford again. I have always been a support America type of person, but with this kind of quality issues, its no wonder Toyota is such a large corporation. Sorry, just needed to vent.

Since the motor is an overhead cam design, it uses timing chains to sync the cams and crank. Due to limited space, one chain had to go on the back of the motor...where you can't change it in-vehicle. Dumb, yes. Engineers never seem to think their product will ever need to be serviced, or at least thats the way European engineers think and design a product that isn't very service friendly.
