Ok, new post for the computer. I did make a set of recovery disks 2 weeks ago. Does anyone know how that works? Does it have all the info from that point in time or is it just like doing a system recovery from the hard drive? Meaning, if I use the disk, will it put me back to the settings and programs from the day I made the disks, or will it take me back to the "out of the box" configuration. I've never used one of these disks before. The computer when I first hooked it up would ask me to make these disks but I held off and had the computer for about 3 months before I made them. It's 2 DVD disks.;)

The recovery discs I have had contact with will only put the original things back on. I've never seen them with the current items on them too, but I could be wrong.

Recovery disks in most cases can do one of two things.

1). Turn the computer back into the out of box configuration.

2). Reinstall the original Software with out deleting every thing else.

In most cases, when you insert the CD and it boots up it will give you a choice of the two above options. I have 4 computers at my home and every set of Recovery Disks I have are like I have posted.

As recommended yesterday, if you wish to put your system back into a recent normal state, thus avoiding the need to reinstall multiple software programs, the easiest way to do so is by using "ghosting" software or disk imaging software. This is different from recovery type disks. Norton has "Ghost" and as I recommended yesterday, there is Acronis True Image software. Even with ghosting images I still back up Quicken on a thumb drive after each and every transaction since it is the one bit of data which I cannot afford to lose.
