Hey everyone. ANyone on here also have a MYSPACE account? If so you can add me at email [email protected].

Other question is. for all the new jersey guys on here. I will be getting stationed at McGuire AFB, New Jersey around the end of june. I leave Ramsein AB, Germany (ater almost 5 years of being stationed here) for Department of Defense Military Working Dog School in San Antionio, Texas. I wil be there from April 2nd to June 18th. Then going home on leave (detroit michigan) and then will be in New Jersey. I gotta get Michigan plates and registration so i dont have to be subject to New Jersey laws ;)

Can anyone tell me a good county to live in. I would like at least a 3 bedroom apartment or a house to rent. It will be me, my girlfriend, her son (when she has him) and my pure breed German Shepard named Jochen.

thanks everyone. I havent lived in the States in almost 5 years and i cant wait to get back home to the Good Ole US and get go my new base.

Hey Alan, Mcguire AFB is part of Fort Dix and pretty far from the part of NJ I live in. I do have a coworker who lives in Manchester so I'll ask her about the area. I'll also ask my buddy who is in the NJ Army national guard if he knows of any good areas around there, he's in Ft Dix all of the time.

Im pretty excited. Ive heard a lot of b ad things about Jersey (NO OFFENSE) Id like to hear some good things about it. Im gonna be there for at least 5 years so id like to know what im getting into..

not that i have much of a choice...:p

Alan,

NJ is expensive! very high housing costs and a lot of people in a small state which makes commuting a major pain in the a$$. However we have the shore, the mountains, NYC nearby as well as Philly. Gas prices are moderate compared to the rest of the country plus you don't have to pump your own (not that pumping gas is a big deal). We have skiing and snowboarding in the winter, the beach, Great adventure in the summer. the NJ Pine Barrens is 1 of the largest national parks in the country (second to only Yosemite I believe). Tons of local history (Washington stayed everywhere!) and all sorts of events in the summer. If you like to gamble you'll be very close to Atlantic City. We have 4 real seasons and you can get real bagels and pizza.

Alan,

JLevin pretty much summed it up. Most people only hear about the bad things of NJ. I moved to the shore area 20 years ago from Buffalo. We were a bit shocked when watching the news because of the shootings, crime etc. You have to remember the news is coming out of Philly or NY. Bigger cities then I was used to. Again, the news reports the bad stuff. I love this area. I have since gotten divorced and moved to PA a 1/2 hr north of Philly. I think you will like it here too.

Thats awsome stuff your telling me. Me being from detroit, im used to hearing nothing but shootings and stuff on the news. How are the auto detail shops? Id like to get a custom body kit made for my trac...(after a deployment) I also need to get my girlfriend a cheap but realiable car when we get there...

Jlevin75-i got your myspace message but i have to add you when i get home..im at work right now

Good luck Alan. The Google Map below has McGuire marked with a green arrow; my house is across the river and North of Philly annotated by the red arrow:

The cost of apartments and homes and the general cost-of-living on the NJ side is much higher than on the PA side, IMHO, but commuting across the river kills most people.

If you like cities, living in Philly might be for you. It has a nice vibe to it, if you are in the right area. There are parts of the city with row homes, brown stones, etc., if that appeals to you.

I live in Bucks County PA. It would be a commute (over 40 miles one way), but IMHO, you can't find a better county in all of PA to live in, especially if you want good school systems. I know of several servicemen who were active out of McGuire that have lived in our area.

Wow..

The past 5 years i have driven a total of 10 minutes from my aparment to Ramstein Air Base main gate. I am going to have to relearn how to commute..LOL..

def. going to need to get my gf a car when we get there. Havin g a good school system is important for Joseph so might have to look into that area as well....

thank you for the help...alwayus love to hear anything about the area

Jlevin,

you forgot to mention the cheese steaks in Philly

and Atco and Raceway Park in englishtown.

Alan,

you might want to look in to base housing, i had a few

wives of airmen that i worked with here in hamilton

that lived on base and i never really heard any bad

complaints from them about it.

if you look on that map above just below trenton

is a 29 thats where i live.

Problem is i cant live in base h ousing. I dont want to get married again just yet so i have to live off ba se so my girlfreind and her son can continue to stay with me
