After a recent 200 mile trip, I noticed a burning grease smell coming from the left front of my 2002. After checking things out, I located a ripped axle shaft boot that was ripped and slinging grease all over. After I replace the shaft, do I need an alignment?

Also, the truck has 220K. If I replace the axle, can I go with the generic shaft or do I need the Motorcraft?

Cv axle doesnt affect alignment, caster/camber bolts at upper control arm do that. I ran autozone cv shafts in my old tahoe with a hot 383 in it for years with no problems. Biggest thing is absolutely make sure to hit the axle nut torque dead on. Too loose or too tight will wipe out the hub and bearings assembly.
