Does anyone know how to wire up a reverse camera so it will come on when my ST is put into reverse and also be able to turn it on with a switch so I can keep an eye on a load I might be towing....any help will be greatly appreciated.....Thanks

depends on the system used..

mine is hooked to the reverse wire on the tail lights. and I can go into the diag. on the system and put it on.

you could wire a relay and a switch to make it think it is in reverse. and not make the reverse lights come on.

You will need 2 connections to the +12V line of the reverse camera.

1. Connected to the reverse tail light, so when you put it in reverse the camera gets power and turns on.

2. A +12V line that is switched that will give the camera power when you flip the switch in the cab of the truck.

My Pioneer AVIC-Z1 head unit controls everything on my rear view cam and allows me to view when in reverse or while driving.

I'd like to add to this post by going one step further. I tow a camper and can see it from the truck's rear view mirror - however; I'd like to put a camera on the back of the camper. I have a class III/IV with a 7 pin wiring harness. Can I do the same thing but use an empty elect port to power the camera on the back of the camper?

I hate not being able to see who's driving behind me and - most important - I can certainly use it to back into the camping spots.

Thanks

This can be done. but the video feed is a 2 wire feed on most cameras. So if you have the wiring diagram on the Cam. it should be Possible.

Jimmy, I think site sponsor SST, sells a wireless unit. That might be something for the rear of your camper.

I'll have to dig up the wiring diagram for the 7 pin plug but I believe I may have a few extra ports.

THANKS for the great advice.

There are no unused ports on the 7 pin. There's an auxilary power pin that you can tap into for 12V power but that's about it. The auxillary power is used for inside trailer lights on enclosed trailers.

Jimmy, this is the wiring diagram... Some vehicles/SUVs come with the Aux/Backup open but the 07/08 ST does not. It's prewired for Auxillary power rite from the factory, whcich is a good thing.

I ran the wire and it's no problem. You have to run the camera hookup wire anyway. I went from the radio under the top of the plastic flooring. Pulled up the driver door step guard and used the track all the way back to the subwoofer. In that well there is a rubber grommet you can use to get to the bottom of the bed. From there it's an easy shot to the back.
