I have an 02 4x4. I noticed some fluid leaking in the right front of the truck. It looks like it is coming from where the rubber hose connects to the metal and the connection there. Any ideas? If the hose bad? Is the connection loose? It driped onto the piece of plastic underneath the truck and then dripped out.

Thanks

I am guessing that we are talking about a right front brake line? If so rust has gotten to it .. will need to replace the steel line.. or rubber brake line which ever is causing the leak... sorry but need more info..

We can't see it from here. You are going to have to do some investigation with a flashlight from above and below. You are going to have to identify the fluid that is leaking. Bottom line, we need more information to help you.

Your leak is most likely ATF (cooler lines connect to bottom of radiator) or engine coolant (radiator, hose, thermostat housing). ATF is a reddish color, coolant is green/goldish. You'll need to do as Gavin suggests to start.

Automatice transmission fluid or power steerning fluid. The only other "red" fluid on our 'Tracs is the transfer case fluid on the 4x4/AWD, but there is no transfer case fluid in the location you are describing.

Most probably is a leak at the cooling lines for the automatic transmission.

There's a box-like vinyl trim piece underneath the radiator, attached by four 11mm screws; it's easy to remove that and take a look - you'll see where the leak is from, most likely from the transmission cooler lines or their connecting fittings at the bottom of your radiator. This is an easy first step that will help you decide how to proceed.

I took off the vinyl trim piece and it looked like one of the fittings got loose. I dont really know how? But I check the lines and they looked clean it was just at the fitting. I tighted the fitting and hope that does it. Do you think the hose needs to be replaced? Or the fitting?

Thanks!

About all you can do at this point is monitor the situation and see what happens. If I'm understanding you, the leak may be from transmission cooler line at the quick disconnect fitting at bottom of radiator. You might research cost of the line for planning purposes; however it could be the female part of fitting that's molded into the radiator. If it's that then I think the only fix is a new radiator. Let us know how things go. A picture would help.
