thought about it for a while but i mostly use bait casting set-ups that are 6' so it was not an option...the length of the bed is the killer

I miss my 8' bed w/ a topper. After breaking a rod when some of my gear fell onto my brand new rod on the way up north, I installed a rod holder in the roof of the topper. I used a rod holder that was designed to span across the gunwales of the boat. It was nice cause I could have all my camping gear in the bottom and could grab a rod and it usually wasn't tangled up. Too bad I can't do that w/ the trac. I've been thinking about getting a luggage box or making my own and cross bars that would be long enough to hold my rods. i have a muskie rod that is 7'2" so i'd need a long box.

i thought about...

then i got a rod that breaks down all the way to the handle and store it behind the seats with extra line, bobbers, sinkers, hooks and even a spare reel

the other day i was driving to the lake to do some fishing and i saw a guy who had rod holders on his roof rack and thought it was a really good idea. Looked all over online and havent found them yet. has anyone else seen these?

Chris, we didn't do that due to the length of some of our poles and the potentional of whacking them on trees and such in our neighborhood. We did however, make a "fishing cart" [box] with rod holders on the side. On the opposing side, we placed two triangular pieces of wood, sort of like kick stands, so that the cart would lay at a 45-ish degree angle in the truck bed, and the rods would as well. It was sort of like a rocket launcher for the bed. You can also use the box itself to store your gear.

If it's something you're willing to design and make, it definitely worth it.

How about making one out of PVC pipe. Get a size big enough that the reel will fit in use screw on caps, that way they are all inside. Mount several on a board and have some type of a handle in the middle of the side. with the handle you can carry the whole thing to where ever you are going to fish and mount the whole thing on a wall when you get home.
