I like the product. The buying public loves "hype" and it drives sales.Look what it does to Sporting events and Show bizz.Word of mouth has always out sold lab data. When the new oil filter goes nationwide get ready for all the "best ever"testimonials.

Will agree Roger, I also feel that syns are better than dinos, but why do I feel like they are?

Because of what I have read by the manufacturers of Syn oils.

Would love to see more studys on Syns, maybe in the long haul they may turn out to be like botteled water, no diff than what you can get out of the faucet.

AH HA! Testimonials are not fact. It might be good oil. The cost of it is outrageous also. When I built my 302 '94 stang I ran castrol syn. In my area it was the cheapest syn. Most of the time I got it for $1 more than a syn blend.

Ran the crap out that stang, never had any failure. I always ignore testimonial hype..

I do know that (anecdotally) when I switched from dino oil to synthetic (i.e. RP) my ST ran smoother, accelerated easier. Draw your own condclusion. I do know that when I switched the diff oil out to RP I did get a measured (before & after) 1 mpg more. I did not feel the need to do a before & after measured test when I switched to RP five years ago; and now in hind sight wish that I had. Also, I did read in a truck magazine, which I posted here a couple of years ago, and they did do their independant test which showed an increase in hp and mpg by putting RP in the engine, transmission and differential.

Aloha guys,

The way I understand it is, synthetics are more uniform in molicule size than dino oil which is refinrd by a distilling process and will will allow a grater range of distalate. That being said, the question is are synthetics worth the extra cost. Manufactures test the engines with dino oil and say that synthetics are not worth the extra cost. People (who I trust) say that it is true that Royal Purple has better lubricating properties than other syn. oils, its extra cost makes it not worth while. I have found that in my old engines, 15-20 years and 100+ K miles, synthetic will leak before dino onto my garage floor.

IMO, if it doesn't leak, use syn. If you drive across the country every week then use the best that you can get. Whatever is in my engine, gets changed every 3K miles.

parden my rant and spelling Ed

Here's a couple of links with some very good info. that I found:

imo, conventional is just fine as long as it is changed under normal conditions at 3k/3 months.

but i do use mobil one syn in all my vehicles as i don't want to commit to the 3 month thing and i feel in the northeast it is a good 4 season choice.

I used Mobil 1 syn in my Trac until about 85,000 miles. Next oil change, I'm using Penzoil syn since it's about $3.00 cheaper for a 5qt jug. I also use the Penzoil syn in my wife's 2008 Taurus.

I use Motorcraft synthetic blend in my Sport Trac and my 2000 Mustang. And I always use Motorcraft oil filters in both. The reasoning being if Ford makes it for Ford vehicles, they can't tell me engine problems (if encountered) were the fault of the wrong lubricants, etc,

A Used Oil Analysis is the only way to know for sure. I used to run Mobil 1 in the wife's Taurus until I tried Motorcraft Blend based on good reviews, got UOA's on both, and they were virtually identical. So now I spend half the money and use Motorcraft in her car.

3 months? I thought it was 6 months.

Regardless, the reason I use synthetic is because I do my own oil changes and like to go a year between changes.

I have been using RP for years now. Mainly because I could buy it for under $4 a quart. Unfortunately my "source" for it has dried up and I'm not about to pay it's ridiculous retail price. Guess I will have to try another brand.
