Is it OK or not to mix Royal Purple tranny fluid with Motorcraft Mercron V? The reason I ask, is that I was debating just draining the pan and refilling with RP fluid rather than a full flush and replacement. I figured that if I did this a few times over the next couple of months, then I would end up with all RP fluid eventually.

I was just trying to think of a way to save a little $$$ (labor costs for a flush), plus, I prefer to do things myself whenever possible.

If the fluids can't be mixed, and this requires a full flush and fluid replacement, then I'll go ahead and spend the extra $$$ to take it to a shop, since a full flush can only be accomplished with the proper equipment.

The fluids are best friends. Mixing is fine. I did the same thing on my '99 Exploder.

Honestly I would never use an thing other then the ford MercV fluid in a ford tranny...

I have seen tooo many issues.....

Yes, people have had great luck with RP and other fluids, It is just my preference..

You read it, is an ad by RP, with the disclaimer, However for the best results one should drain exsisting fluids.

And it is very simple to do your own at home tranny flush complete TT, just have to learn how.

Todd, I agree. My old Exploder took Mercon III, so I did it. On the Trac, I have RP in every fluid orifice possible, except the tranny. It's still running the stock Ford fluid.
