I did a search and didn't find the answer I was looking for so here goes: I'm gonna try some sea foam in my daughters '97 Escort 2.0 SPI. I'm getting a #4 misfire even after changing plugs, wires and a ignitoin coil. Compression is good, fuel pressure good and no appearance of coolant anywhere so I doubt it's a head gasket. I'm leaning towards a sticking valve. Does the sea foam work good at cleaning valves? Also, what is the best way to use it, thru a vacuum line or thru the throttle body? I'm stumped on this one and don't want to sink a lot of money in this car so I'm trying the cleaning first. I hope it's not some more internal, the cars not worth the money to do anything like that. Thanks in advance for all the help and input.

Mark i went through the same thing except Number 1 cyl. I replaced the plugs, injectors, wires. The compression said it was good but i did a leak down test and Number 2 was leaking from the exhaust valve.

i removed the head and the dam head gasket was bad...

I have a 97 wagon 2.0......

The sea foam and the Gunk cleaners are pretty good, Give it a try, but I think it may be worse..

Also a fuel filter change would not hurt....

Todd,

Forgot to mention that I've done a fuel filter already. Also replace the PCV tube because the elbow was sucking shut. Which way do you recommend to use it, vacuum or otherwise?

I allways used those types of cleaners through the vac line and then used the swabs or cloth to clean the tbody after words....

I try to use the brake booster line...

Todd,

I used the brake booster line and did like the can said, boy did it smoke! Seems to run a little better now though. I guess only time and driving will tell if the code will come back. Thanks for all the help.
