I'm a new owner of a 2008 Limited 4 x 4 w/ electronics package. Does anyone have any experience and/or feedback for me on installing an aftermarket (Autopage) alarm system with remote start ? I do not want to loose any of the functionality with the stock remote or void any warranties.

Thank you,

Tony

i have some feedback for you... dont try it yourself unless your very very good at it. it took a professional shop 8 hours longer than they expected to make it work on my 04 ST. and it is the alarm that they sell so they are familiar with it and i know their work and know that they are very good at what they do. the alarm part was actually simple it was the remote start that took forever

They're not as good as you think. I've done about 7 or 7 remote start installs now, including my Sport Trac, and only the first took 8-10 hours. That one was also about 10 years ago, before the wiring diagrams were available online and the wiring chart I had didn't match half the wires I needed. The rest have been 4-6 hour jobs, keeping everything nice and neat.

Most that I have done take me about 2 hours. (just for the remote starter) My quickest was 1/2hour on a 1990 GMC pick-up for my old boss. It was great, didn't even have to take the dash apart. My first one took 8 hours, but as Dan said, I didn't have any wiring diagram for the vehicle, and had to probe each wire. Now I get most of my diagrams off bulldogsecurity.com. I still need to find a site that lists for the newer (07-08) vehicles.

portony, is there a reason you need the alarm? People will still steal it reguardless. Why not save some money by just putting in a remote start. Just my opinion, it's your vehicle.;)

The alarm that comes with the truck is only 'passive'. If you break the glass, nothing will happen. The stock alarm will only sound if the doors and/or hood are broken open. But I agree with your premise. Lastly, a local speed shop would be installing the system.

Thank you for your feedback,

Tony

well they expected the be done in around three hours since he was familiar with the system. but he hadnt dont a sport trac. he had done other explorers. and the bypass module he had was bad and had to wait on another one. so that added to the time. but i still would not recommend doing it yourself unless your really good at that kinda think. i like to think in ok with car wiring but i decided i couldnt handle this job when i opened the box

Clay, I know what you mean. The wires that "pop" out of the box when you open it is quite overwelming. The funny thing is, most of the time, you don't even need half the wires that are in there. I was going to ask you if the trouble they had was the bipass module or the unit. The modules can be a pain, especially when it's broke right from the box. It takes forever to figure out that it's a bad module.;)

yeah i know what YOU mean about the wires that are not necessary. last summer i was installing a full system in my "friends" jeep(95 grand cherokee) before we went to school and i got the radio all wire up and working and then tried to put it in the dash and there was absolutely no room. it just would not fit because of all the wire. so i took it back out and shortened all the wires as much as possible and it still wouldnt fit. so i went back and thought about it for a while un wired it all and did it again. this time i hooked up three wires only. plugged the thing in and it did everything we needed it to do. i put in the radio. all four doors, tweets and three subs and three amps and charged him no installation and half price for all the subs and two of the amps. and when we left for school he ended up sleeping with my girlfriend. i have half a mind to give him a little taste of what the car stereo thieves at my school gave to me

Man Clay that blows. Nice "friend". Don't worry, I've learned "what goes around, comes around". Maybe you'll get lucky. Maybe his Jeep will get broken into and the guys that did it will sleep with his girlfriend.:D;)

I'll tell ya what... Send me pics and an address of his girlfriend and I'll take care of the problem. ;)

haha he doesnt have one, he is still in love with mine. and has been for a couple years now. this is why she is no longer mine. hahah dingo

How 'bout if I send my friend Carrie up there to make him fall in love and then not sleep with him and ditch his arse... That would be nice, right?

but yeah i would definitely get the remote start with your alarm portony. it saved me from getting towed tuesday. the truck was backing up to tow it and i looked out the window and saw it. grabbed me remote and cranked the b from the seven floor. the guy got out of his truck and looked in it. then drove off.
