Hello all.....I bought my 2007 Sport Trac just over a year ago, but have not been able to get the key pad to work. My security pad is aftermarket Ford. It was installed by the dealership for the original owner. This pad is mounted on the door just under the door handle (something like the 1st generation). I am not able to get it to do any function.....it will not lock the doors if you hold the last two pads at the same time. The number pads will light up if you depress them, but that is it. I do have the Ford security card/number and I have followed the instructions to get the code back to factory default, but no joy.

Any advice would be appreciated.....

I was talking to one of my techs, and he said it sounds like the keypad has worn out. The older style pad's battery can't be replaced without destroying it.

Check your email. I also sent you the latest instructions that Ford offers for the keypad programming.

The key pad looks new.....there is absolutly no wear showing on any of the pads. The truck only had 27K miles on it when I bought it, so it wasn't hurt (I have 44K on it now). I thought about the battery, but according to the key pad instruction manual if it is the battery it will flash a code. The key pads light up good when you depress a button. I will check my email and see if the instructions you sent are any different from what I have now.

Thanks for the reply Roger....

Roger....I gave the instructions a try and I thought it was going to work. The truck performed just as the instructions stated it would. I am able to get the security pad to function to lock the doors, but not open using the security code from the card. I can't see how I could be doing something wrong. At least I know the pad will work......I hate to pay Ford $80 to connect to the computer to see if the code in the computer matches my card.

On my first generation Sport Trac I was able to read my code removing the back section of the dash cover......is there anywhere on the 2nd generation Sport Tracs to find the code?

I received information on another forum that this style (RF) keypad works totally different from the OEM style (Hardwired). If your OEM security code is lost the code is not stored on any module in the vehicle. Because it is RF switched you will not be able to reprogram....a connection would not help because it is not stored in the SJB. I bought this truck they put another Sport Trac owners manual/information in the glove box. There was not code card in the information. I was cleaning the truck a couple of weeks after buying the truck and found what I think is the origianl manual packet under the passenger seat. It has the original owners name in the maintenance book and the aftermarket keypad instruction was in it. The OEM Security code card was in the front pocket, so I thought I was golden. I am at a loss now since the code is not opening the doors. It will lock, but not open. I can replace the keypad with a new OEM Ford aftermarket for about $75 bucks....that may be my best option now.
